Chapter 1294

Seeing Skylar lost in thought, Simona continued, “He came from a poor rural family and worked his way up entirely through his own efforts. While his family background isn't ideal, I believe one's family is something they can't choose.”

“Hmm, have you learned about his parents and family?” Skylar asked.

Simona shook her head. “I haven’t really asked. I’m afraid it might make him feel inferior. He did mention he’s the only one from his village to attend university, and his parents are very proud of him.”

Although Simona’s parents had died young, she’d never faced financial hardship thanks to her brother’s unwavering support. Having researched life in remote rural areas online, she realized it was a lifestyle beyond her comprehension, making her admire Stephen’s achievements even more.

Skylar nodded. “I think you should have a proper talk with your brother. He’s the person who cares for you most. Understanding a partner’s intentions takes time, but your brother is different. While a person’s background isn't paramount, knowing more about it is essential. You’ve always been smart, and I trust you’ll calmly consider how to learn more about him.”

Simona’s expression froze. She realized she’d never proactively inquired about Stephen’s family situation.

“Do you want to hear about my experience with my ex-boyfriend?” Skylar asked gently.

Simona nodded, dazed. “Yes! I want to hear it.”

Skylar then recounted her story with Christopher, from their youthful innocence to his ultimate betrayal. People change. Someone you believe you know well might not be who they truly are. Sincerity isn't always reciprocal.

Simona’s eyes welled up. “Skylar, you must have been so hurt!”

Skylar smiled. “Sadness was inevitable, but thankfully, there are always fresh starts. However, life doesn’t offer unlimited chances to make mistakes. Simona, I’m telling you this so you understand your brother has never been your adversary. He’s your closest confidant. Even when the world abandons you, he never will.”

“Yes! Skylar, I understand. I’ve been so disoriented, seeing him as an enemy, and never truly knowing Stephen. I know what to do next,” Simona said, her eyes regaining their light and showing newfound determination.

She hadn’t thought things through; she’d been swept away by emotions. She never asked her brother why he didn’t support her relationship with Stephen, and she never truly understood Stephen. Family upbringing shapes character. She’d witnessed the manipulations of so-called relatives growing up with her brother, but she'd been too irrational lately.

After ending the call, Skylar opened her chat with Aiken. Several addresses were listed: Joe’s current address, his company’s, and Rosa’s home. It also noted Joe saw a psychologist every Wednesday afternoon, including the hospital’s address and the doctor’s contact information. Since tomorrow was Wednesday, Skylar decided to visit the hospital. She wanted a face-to-face conversation with Joe.

She hadn’t told Gloria that Ned was Joe. Now that Gloria had accepted Joe’s loss, revealing his survival and amnesia might be difficult. Once Joe accepted his identity as Joe Martin, not Ned Sowle, she would bring him to see Gloria immediately. She didn’t know how much longer Gloria’s health would last.

Skylar drove to the private hospital the next afternoon. She’d researched it online; many of its psychologists were highly skilled, attracting patients from around the world. She was also curious about Joe’s six-month-long therapy.
