Chapter 1297

The psychiatrist sighed. "It's possible, but it would require him to interact with old friends or have someone stimulate those memories."

"Actually, there's been some progress today. Mr. Sowle seemed to recall a fragment or two, possibly scenes with you. Ms. Reese, you could try taking Mr. Sowle to places you used to visit to help jog his memory."

Rosa gripped her phone. "Alright, I understand. Thank you, Doctor."

After hanging up, she saw her pale reflection. Panic surged. The doctors had previously said Joe might never regain his memories. But the psychologist now suggested it wasn't impossible. It sounded like Joe had already started remembering things.

Could the trip to Jipsburg and meeting Skylar have triggered something? She clenched her teeth, regretting the trip if that were true.

She called Joe repeatedly. After a dozen calls, she heard the front door open. She rushed to the entrance and saw him changing his shoes. Panic, helplessness, and fear flooded her heart. "Ned…"

He looked up. Her back stiffened; his gaze felt trapping. Though his deep, unreadable gaze was familiar, a distance had grown.

"Why… why are you back so late?" she asked, regaining her composure.

He walked in. "I had some things to take care of."

"Ned, can we move up the wedding? I've been having nightmares—you were leaving me. I'm scared! Perhaps it's the upcoming surgery, but I'm afraid something might go wrong. You know how fragile my health is. I keep dreaming about the time you were hospitalized. I thought I'd lose you forever. But you won't leave me, right?" Her anxiety was evident as she sought reassurance.

She kept bringing up the past, reminding him of her devotion. His expression wavered. He replayed Skylar telling him they were married; her sparkling eyes. He'd suspected he might be Joe Martin. Fleeting images overlapped with Skylar, yet something felt wrong.

Seeing his absent-mindedness, Rosa threw her arms around him. "Ned, have you fallen for someone else? Have we been together so long you've lost interest? Is that it?" Her voice trembled.

He seemed distant. It wasn't work; it felt like he was thinking about a woman. Was it Skylar, even after just a few days? Did he miss her that much? "If you've fallen for another woman, Ned, I would be utterly heartbroken."
