Chapter 1336
Skylar thoughtfully stared at the word "gambling." She remembered Aiken mentioning he owned two casinos in Murida. After a brief moment of contemplation, she called him.
Simona entered the study with a plate of fruit, just in time to hear Aiken say goodbye to Skylar.
"Aiken, were you just talking to Skylar?"
Aiken looked up. "Yes, she needed my help."
Simona wasn't overly curious; she understood some things were best left unasked. However, knowing Skylar sought her brother's help genuinely pleased her. She knew the chances of Aiken and Skylar becoming a couple were slim, but she couldn't help occasionally daydreaming otherwise.
Aiken sensed Simona's preoccupation. She wouldn't have brought him fruit otherwise. Recent tension between them stemmed from Stephen.
"Aiken, what I'm about to say might upset you, but I can't hide it. I need to talk," Simona said cautiously. She'd planned to wait, but keeping it from him felt uncomfortable and guilty. She still hoped for his support.
Aiken regarded her thoughtfully, seemingly unsurprised. "Go ahead."
Simona, playfully, said, "But promise you won't get mad, okay?"
"Alright."
Taking a deep breath, Simona confessed, "Aiken, I'm sorry. I disobeyed you; I'm still seeing Stephen. He's a good person, and we love each other. He treats me well. At university, people say we're a perfect match. I know his background isn't ideal, but he had no choice. If he could, he'd want a better life, just like me."
"I understand," Aiken replied calmly.
His indifference startled Simona. "Aiken?"
"Since you're together, so be it. But no physical intimacy until after graduation," he stated.
Simona's eyes widened. "Aiken, you approve?"
Aiken nodded.
"Aiken, that's amazing! I was so worried! We won't do anything before marriage. I want to know him better. I've wanted your approval most of all."
Her happiness felt sudden. She'd braced herself for a scolding, fearing Aiken would confront Stephen. She knew that if Aiken spoke to him, Stephen's pride might end their relationship. Stephen had even told her today he didn't think Aiken would approve because of his background.
But everything worked out! She could be with Stephen openly.
A cold glint flashed in Aiken's eyes at his sister's elation. Stephen was bold.
"You may go. I have work," he said.
Simona nodded repeatedly. "Okay, I won't disturb you. Aiken, I'll take care of myself." She thoughtfully closed the door behind her.
Once alone, Aiken's expression turned icy. He made a call.
"Any progress with the arrangement?"
"Yes. Stephen couldn't resist the temptation. It should be done in a few days."
