Chapter 1342
As Gloria and Skylar hurried from the elevator, Skylar accidentally bumped into Joe, who caught her before she fell. Calvin, standing nearby, was shocked. Who would have thought that after yesterday's encounter, his boss would see Skylar again today? It seemed like fate, an unstoppable force. He remembered Rosa's questioning the previous night. He felt guilty; not only had his boss seen Skylar yesterday, but they had kissed. He'd witnessed it, but couldn't tell Rosa without his boss's permission.
"Excuse me. We'll be leaving now," Gloria said, reluctant to depart Joe's side, yet understanding the need for patience. She knew Joe's cautious nature; saying too much might cause him to overthink, hindering his recovery.
Skylar nodded to Joe, prioritizing Gloria's emotional well-being. Though she longed to speak with him, this wasn't the time. As they left, Gloria repeatedly glanced back.
Outside the hospital, she took Skylar's hand. "Now that I've seen Joe, I feel at ease. I had doubts, fearing it was wishful thinking, but seeing him confirms it's truly him." Tears welled in her eyes.
Veronica quickly consoled her. "Don't cry, Mrs. Martin Senior. The doctor advised you to remain calm and avoid strong mood swings."
Skylar added, "Yes, Grandma, please stay calm."
Gloria wiped her tears, smiling and nodding. "Okay, don't worry. I'm fine, really. My emotions are stable."
Skylar relaxed. "That's good. Let's go home now."
"Yes, let's go home. Why was he at the hospital? Could it be an aftereffect of the accident?" Gloria worried.
Skylar reassured her with a smile. "He's okay. He lost his memory, but his physical injuries are healed. There's nothing to worry about, Grandma."
"Mr. Martin was likely here for Rosa. She may have health issues. We ran into her during your checkup," Veronica explained, hoping to prevent further worry.
Gloria calmed down. "I see."
A thought struck her, and she looked at Skylar. "Skye, since he's lost his memory, he might show Rosa concern. Don't let that upset you. When he looked at you, the look in his eyes was unmistakable—he clearly still has feelings for you."
Skylar smiled. "Grandma, I understand. Don't worry."
Satisfied, Gloria nodded, fatigue evident on her face. She leaned back, closing her eyes. "I'll take a short nap. Wake me when we're home."
"Okay, Grandma. Have a rest." Skylar signaled the driver to proceed cautiously.
Meanwhile, Rosa lay in bed, pale-faced, after a series of tests. She'd spoken with Joe that morning; he'd promised to visit. But now, after her tests, he hadn't arrived. She anxiously awaited his arrival when the door opened.
