Chapter 1350
Skylar immediately realized Joe was still uncertain about his identity. He worried whether he was truly Joe Martin. Seeing his doubt, Skylar remained firm. โFrom the day I confirmed you were Joe, you became Joe. You are not Ned Sowle. My commitment is to you, not the name you currently use.โ
Upon hearing this, Joeโs eyes darkened, a storm brewing within them. His intense gaze seemed almost to devour her. He thought, โSheโs committed to me?โ Their eyes locked; Skylarโs heart pounded.
A sudden call shattered the silence. Joe answered.
โMr. Sowle, Ms. Reese has attempted suicide! Please come to the hospital quickly!โ
The callerโs urgency altered Joeโs expression. He stood, saying, โIโll be right there.โ Then, to Skylar, โRemember what you said today.โ He strode out.
Skylar had faintly heard โattempted suicide.โ But why would Rosa suddenly attempt suicide?
At the hospital, Rosa lay pale and unconscious for over an hour. Fortunately, a nurse discovered her in time; otherwise, the consequences would have been dire. The doctor explained Rosaโs condition to Calvin, who briefed Joe immediately.
โMr. Sowle, Ms. Reese used a razor to cut her wrists; blood was everywhere. The doctor said it was a close callโan hour later, she might not have survived. The cut was deep. It seems she genuinely intended to end her life. The doctor also said she canโt be stressed; she may try again when she wakes. A psychologist called; he said Ms. Reese has severe depression and is in a critical period needing family support. Otherwise, she might not have the will to live.โ
Calvin watched Joeโs reaction. Observing Joe daily, Calvin noted his unusual recent interest in Skylar, even arranging their lunch meeting. But this emergency meant he wouldnโt see Skylar anytime soon. Rosa was too fragile. Theyโd prevented one attempt, but what about the next?
Joeโs brow furrowed deeply.
Then, Rosa regained consciousness. Opening her eyes, she felt disoriented, unsure of her location. Seeing Joe, she was stunned. After a few minutes, she averted her gaze, staring blankly at the ceiling. Rosa, usually vivacious and talkative, seemed utterly devoid of spiritโan expression Joe rarely saw.
