Chapter 1353

Rosa felt life had truly lost its meaning.

“Mr. Sowle is in the elevator now, Ms. Reese. Please come down. You can speak with him directly when he arrives. He's always been a man of his word; you know him better than we do,” Calvin said, wiping sweat from his forehead. “Some people are merely passing through his life. How can a fleeting acquaintance be more important than you? You’re the one destined to share his future. You’ve been through so much together. This is just a minor hurdle.”

Rosa’s expression softened slightly. Perhaps everything was a small issue. Yes, Skylar was just a passerby. She was the one meant to be with him for a lifetime. They had been through so much. Skylar couldn’t take him away so easily; she was just a cunning thief, and thieves rarely win.

Just then, Joe exited the elevator. Seeing Rosa on the rooftop, he frowned. “Rosa, come down.”

Hearing his voice, Rosa turned. Tears welled in her eyes. “I won’t. I don’t want to be a burden. Ned, we are destined to be apart. I know you don’t love me anymore, so I’ll let you go. I just want you to be happy.”

Rosa wept, appearing at peace, unafraid of death. Then, she glanced down. Many people had gathered. Reporters snapped photos, cameras clicking.

She didn't want this humiliation captured, nor to be associated with a suicide attempt. But there was no other way. Joe was resolute. If he said he would leave her, he would. If he went to Skylar, he would do it. She had to take drastic measures.

“If you come down, we’ll get married tomorrow,” Joe said gravely.

Outside, Skylar joined the crowd, looking up. The building wasn't tall; she could clearly see Rosa. Reporters had deployed drones, eager to be first with the news. One reported live updates from the drone feed.

Hearing Joe's marriage promise, Skylar's expression changed dramatically. “I heard they’ve been in love for years, growing up together in an orphanage. Years ago, Ned was in a terrible car accident, and Rosa cared for him.”

“Her loyalty must have deeply affected him. How could he forget that? Why is this happening? Why is Rosa threatening to jump?”

“They just showed footage. There’s a third party; Ned wants to break up with Rosa, devastating her.”

“I wouldn't handle that well either. After investing years and nurturing hope, only to have a mistress appear at the last minute…”

“I wonder who this mistress is. She must be quite the schemer. I recently read reports stating Ned had eyes only for Rosa. How could she take her place so quickly?”
