Chapter 168

Annie arrived at the restaurant early; it was relatively empty. Perched on the twentieth floor, it offered a panoramic view of the city. Spotting Skylar, Annie motioned her to a seat.

"Please have a seat, Ms. Sullivan. I've just ordered some dishes. Take a look and see if there's anything else you'd like," Annie said with a poised smile and steady tone.

As expected of a TV host, Annie's every gesture oozed sophistication. Her demeanor was flawless.

"Alright, thanks." Skylar didn't bother with the menu. After settling in, she sipped her water and waited for Annie to explain the purpose of their meeting.

The club's dim lighting and late hour had obscured her appearance the other day. But now, Skylar seemed even more youthful and radiant, like a college freshman.

As Annie stirred her coffee, her gaze darkened slightly. Observing Skylar's composed demeanor, she wondered how she had caught Joe's eye. Despite her young age, Skylar wasn't easily swayed. What did a woman without a substantial background seek by becoming the mistress of a successful man?

Annie knew the answer well. With self-assurance, she slid a one-million-dollar check across the table.

Skylar was surprised. She had anticipated Annie's motive, but not such a melodramatic display. How peculiar. She glanced at the check. A million dollars?

"Ms. Sullivan, you're smart enough to understand. Leave Mr. Martin, and this check is yours," Annie said, a hint of pride in her tone.

Coming from an educated, privileged background, Annie considered herself a fitting match for Joe. Skylar, on the other hand, was destined, in Annie's view, to be nothing more than a mistress.

Skylar remained indifferent, recalling Viola's advice about composure. Calmly, she asked, "What exactly is your relationship with Mr. Martin?"

After leaving the club, Skylar had suspected misunderstandings. Joe didn't seem connected to Annie, but it was speculation.

Annie frowned. "You don't need to know our relationship. I know you're with him for the money. Beyond that, it's none of your business if you take the money and leave, as requested."

"So, you're not dating then?" Skylar's tone remained calm.

Annie's expression turned cold. "I've investigated you. You're the Williams family's estranged daughter. Since they don't favor you, it's unlikely they'd give you money to spend recklessly. That's why you set your sights on Mr. Martin. But do you honestly believe a relationship built on superficialities can last? It can't withstand scrutiny."

Skylar's expression remained neutral. "Your investigation was quite thorough, Ms. Silver."
