Chapter 172

Marcus stopped Skylar by grabbing her shopping cart. His gaze fixed on her like a predator eyeing its prey. "Let me give you a lift."

The woman beside Skylar's face soured. "Marc…" She felt insecure; Marcus was showering Skylar with attention despite promising to spend the whole day with her. Worse, Skylar seemed more stunning.

Marcus glanced at the woman dismissively. "You go on ahead."

Of all the people Skylar had met at the club, Marcus was her least favorite. He was a playboy, and his wealth made his downfall at the hands of a woman inevitable.

Skylar suddenly grabbed Marcus's arm, applying pressure with her fingertips. "I said, I can handle this myself."

Marcus jolted as if electrocuted. "Ah!" He'd suppressed a scream to avoid alarming others, but the sudden movement startled the woman beside him.

"Marc?" she asked. "What's happening? Why did you leap like you were about to perform a magic trick?"

By then, Skylar had pushed her cart into the elevator. It seemed as if she hadn't even caused his reaction.

Marcus reacted too late. He could only watch as Skylar entered the elevator. His handsome face darkened.

"I'll own you one day, Skylar! You're not better than anyone else just because you're with Joe!" Marcus gritted his teeth. He was confident he could win any woman he desired.

The attractive woman beside him felt aggrieved. "Marc… do you not like me anymore? Didn't you promise to spend the day with me? Aren't we going to the mall after finishing shopping at the supermarket?" She wasn't bothered by his many flings, but she felt uneasy.

"What shopping? Get lost!"

After leaving the supermarket, Skylar visited Caleb at the hospital. Caleb stared at the large lollipop in his hand, speechless. "I'm not a kid anymore." Was he still a child in her eyes? He felt bitter.

He wanted to ask about her feelings, but the words caught in his throat. He feared she'd say she saw him as a child or a little brother.

Skylar smiled. "You're still a kid in my eyes. That's why I deliberately chose a motorcycle-shaped lollipop."

Caleb forced a smile. "Skylar, I'm not a kid anymore. Plenty of girls want to be my girlfriend."

"Okay, okay, you're the patient, you call the shots. The doctor probably won't let you eat lollipops now. Save it for later when you're discharged," Skylar coaxed him.

Caleb felt he had a long way to go in pursuing Skylar. Though John said they were impossible, Caleb was determined to prove him wrong.

After leaving the hospital, Skylar drove back to Galaxy Villa. It was 2:00 PM. She began preparing ingredients in the kitchen. Time passed quietly.

She received a call from Charles. The butler had mistakenly let him stay at the mansion last night. Today, the film crew fawned over him. He felt powerful, observing Samuel's bitter expression and murderous gaze.

"But I'm worried my good times will end when the butler realizes his mistake," Charles said.

Skylar couldn't give specifics, so she told him he was lucky and not to worry. She suggested perhaps he'd done good deeds and someone was repaying him. Charles had always been kind and helpful to the elderly.
