Chapter 20

Paul took Skylar directly to a stylist's studio. He must have booked the entire studio, as no other customers were present. Skylar followed the stylist's suggestions and changed into a haute couture black dress. Initially, she didn't give it much thought.

After her hair and makeup were finished, she barely recognized herself in the mirror. The dress appeared simple, but its cutout back showcased her delicate spine, lending her an elegant and noble air.

When Paul emerged from the restroom, he was stunned. He'd always known Skylar was pretty, possessing delicate features, but he hadn't anticipated a simple gown transforming her into such an eye-catching beauty. She was the kind of beauty that would make men stop in their tracks.

Paul, dazzled, barely dared to look at her again. He left quickly after collecting her. Skylar wore heels, making driving inconvenient, so Paul drove her car.

Because it was a small car worth only $100,000, they were stopped by security at the auction house's car park.

"I'm sorry, sir. This is the auction house's car park. You're not permitted to park here unless you're a guest," the security guard said with a stern, arrogant tone. Despite his apology, his words implied this wasn't a place for commoners. However, upon seeing the luxurious car behind them, his attitude changed dramatically.

Skylar raised an eyebrow from the passenger seat. Paul knew that classism existed, but he'd never experienced such treatment while out with Joe. His expression turning cold, he said, "Don't you know who I am?"

The security guard initially ignored him, assuming anyone driving such an inexpensive car was inconsequentialโ€”likely just commoners wanting to experience the auction. He'd seen many such people. But upon hearing Paul's words and finally looking, he was utterly stunned. "Mr. Ziegler?"

Chapter 20 (continued)

Paul frequented the auction house with Joe of Martin Group. The auction house employees were trained to recognize prominent Jipsburg figures like him.

"You're doing an excellent job. I'll inform your superiors later," Paul said.

The security guard, terrified, began to sweat. He quickly bowed, explaining, "We have a large crowd tonight, so we're stopping unfamiliar cars. It's my fault for not recognizing you, Mr. Ziegler."

Paul sneered. "Is that so?" Then he drove into the car park.

Skylar observed coolly, unimpressed. Judgy people were ubiquitous; the Williamses were a prime example.

Later, Skylar met Joe. He was dressed in a haute couture suit, handsome and tall as always, but exuding a cold, noble aura. His deep eyes lingered on Skylar for a moment. Her delicate porcelain skin and refined eyes, coupled with the elegant black dress, transformed her into a captivating figure, her alluring form instantly arresting his attention. His gaze became unreadable.
