Chapter 216
In Skylar's eyes, Joe was impeccably dressed, always appearing aloof and exuding an aura of coldness. His voice, even when speaking, maintained a distant, chilly tone. Coupled with his exceptionally handsome face, the contrast between his usual demeanor and the seductive tone he now used was striking, filled with allure and charm. His breath lingered by her ear, making her skin tingle and blush.
Joe's eyes darkened. His fingers, tracing her smooth face as expected, brushed against her skin. Just as his lips were about to touch hers, Skylar pushed him away. The temptation was overwhelming, but despite the daze in her eyes, she wasn't ready.
"I haven't showered yet," she said, flustered. "I'll go shower, and youโฆ you go to the hot spring first." She pushed him away, avoiding his gaze.
Joe, still caught up in his emotions, was pushed out just as she locked the bathroom door. He gazed at the locked door, desire lingering in his eyes.
Skylar was unpredictableโfierce and bold one moment, retreating into her shell the next. Earlier, she had agreed decisively, likely without fully considering the implications of marriage.
Joe envisioned Skylar's flushed cheeks and trembling eyes. His Adam's apple bobbed as he hoarsely replied, "Alright."
Inside the bathroom, Skylar's heartbeat quickened. Her earlier comment about showering could have easily been misunderstood. She took a deep breath. His physique was truly exceptionalโshe hadn't even counted his abs.
Joe placed two glasses of red wine by the hot spring. As he closed his eyes to enjoy the night, he heard a familiar voice from another villaโJeremy, on the phone.
"Tell my wife I'm already on a business trip. Don't say too much," Jeremy said. Another call followed quickly. "I just got off the plane. The video conference ended early, and they're pushing for the contract to be signed tomorrow morning. I didn't have time to tell you. It's so late; shouldn't you be resting at home?"
"That's a pity. We'll go out for a meal when I get back."
"You're the best, Nath. Go home and sleep. I'll bring you a gift when I return."
Joe remained impassive, sipping his wine, listening to Jeremy's practiced lies and explanations. Meanwhile, Natalie felt dejected after ending her call, feeling the trip had been a waste.
Earlier, while waiting at a restaurant, she had noticed a 24-hour adult store and bought some sexy clothes to surprise Jeremy. But he wasn't at the office; he was too busy. As she left, the overworked receptionist breathed a sigh of relief. This receptionist had a friend, also a receptionist, who often covered for her boss, but she hadn't expected to have to do the same since Natalie rarely came to the office.
