Chapter 260

Talk about fate! Skylar had been playfully displaying a picture of a fake marriage certificate with Joe, her supposed husband. Now, the groom from that fake certificate was standing right in front of them!

Natalie's mind raced. "Skye and Joe are rather fated together, aren't they?" she exclaimed. No other explanation seemed possible for how two people from such different social circles kept encountering each other. Perhaps the fake marriage certificate was real!

Skylar looked where Natalie pointed and saw Joe. Golf, it seemed, was a hobby of his.

"Oh? Is that Annie?" Natalie sounded surprised. "Skye, you're out of the running. It looks like the rumors are true. Annie really is Joe's girlfriend. They're even playing golf together." Natalie had heard rumors that there was nothing between Joe and Annie, so she'd assumed her own suspicions were unique. The evidence, however, proved her wrong.

Skylar only noticed Annie when Natalie mentioned her. From their distance, they could only see Annie and Joe, unable to hear their conversation.

"Joe? Is that Mr. Martin of the Martin Group?" Charles craned his neck to get a better look. He knew the Martin Group had invested in his movie, but no one dared speak of it openly when Joe was involved.

"That's right," Natalie affirmed, nodding emphatically. A look of ruefulness crossed her face. Skylar and Joe looked like a good match in the picture, and it seemed Skylar liked Joe; otherwise, she wouldn't have photoshopped him into the picture.

Skylar tilted her head, studying Joe and Annie. Why were they there?

"What is it, Skye?" Charles asked, concerned by Skylar's pensive expression.

"Oh, it's nothing, Charles. Do you have any other scenes later?" Skylar looked away from the couple.

"Nope," Charles replied promptly. "I was planning on golfing with you guys."

Skylar, however, wanted to avoid an awkward encounter with Annie and Joe. "Why don't we take a stroll? I'm not really into golf," she suggested.

"Sure thing."

As Skylar looked away, Joe briefly glanced at her; his expression was unreadable. Skylar seemed unconcerned by his presence with Annie.

"Mr. Martin, please give me another chance," Annie pleaded, her eyes red-rimmed. She had never been so meek, even though she had liked him for years. She feared her humility might be in vain, aware that her future with Joe depended on the Silver family's standing in Jipsburg City.

She couldn't understand what was so special about Skylar, a simple country girl.

Joe closed his eyes, looked away from Skylar, then back at Annie. "Why bother sowing the seeds if you can't lie in your bed of roses?" he said decisively, leaving without looking back.

Annie's face drained of color as she anxiously followed him.
