Chapter 263

The companies behind these men were all partners of the Martin Group, and they were close to Joe as well. It appeared they had arranged to socialize.

Walking ahead, Skylar heard a commotion behind her. She turned and caught Joe's gaze. They both seemed to share a mutual understanding while pretending not to know each other in front of the others. Their eyes revealed no emotion.

"Wow, it's Joe. Look, was he looking at you? I have this inexplicable feeling that you might have a chance with him," Natalie said, liking the idea of them together. She thought they made a good-looking couple, surpassing any she'd seen on dating shows or among celebrities.

"You mean Skye and Joe? They don't even know each other; how is that possible? Besides, I don't think Joe is a good match for her," Charles countered. "Marrying into a wealthy family isn't as great as it seems; there are many complications and rules. Plus, plenty of wealthy women want to marry Joe. Even if Skye is outstanding, it's best not to get involved in that mess. Those wealthy families are complicated."

Charles dismissed Natalie's idea without hesitation. Skylar felt a pang of guilt. She had already married into the family, and the future remained uncertain. It seemed there was no turning back.

She received a text from Joe: "Dinner tonight?"

"Okay," she replied.

Then she asked Charles, "If I actually married Joe, would you advise me to get a divorce?"

Charles was surprised. "I never considered that a possibility. You don't even know him. You've just met by coincidence; there's no talk of marriage, let alone divorce."

"Skye, don't get too caught up in this," Natalie warned. The fake marriage certificate suggested Skylar was becoming too involved. Natalie felt anxious. Had Skylar taken her jokes about them being a couple to heart, leading to the fake marriage certificate photo? Was Skylar in trouble because of her reckless words?

Skylar looked at them both. All she could manage was, "Alright then."

Neither would believe her, no matter what she said.

Although Charles had finished filming, he had to accompany the crew to the next location for a night shoot. After lunch, Skylar and Natalie left, Skylar driving Natalie home.

Skylar then decided to visit some properties she'd researched. Time flew by as she visited them in person to compare. She soon chose a four-bedroom house with a green landscape and satisfying layout, immediately paying a ten-million-dollar deposit. She had a few million in hand and decided to pay half upfront, taking out a loan for the rest. Having accomplished this major task, she drove directly to the restaurant where Joe was waiting.

Overjoyed at achieving her dream, she couldn't wait to share the news with her adoptive mother and family. She planned to tell them after making the final payment next week and receiving the keys. She hadn't noticed a car following her since she left the first property.
