Chapter 265
Annie was full of herself. Where did this sense of superiority come from?
“I looked into this, but it’s not what you think. I’m just giving you another option,” Annie said, unconvinced she was wrong.
Skylar glanced at the time; twenty minutes remained. Joe was always punctual, so he should arrive soon.
Seeing Skylar check her watch, Annie asked, “Do you have a date? With whom?” Her tone was anxious.
Skylar smiled. “Haven’t you already figured that out?”
Annie’s face soured.
“Think carefully about my proposal. You won’t get another chance after today, even if you regret it. I’ve known Joe for a long time. You just met him, and you don’t understand the Martin family. They won’t accept a girl from the countryside marrying him. You can only be his plaything.”
“Are you done?” Skylar’s patience was wearing thin. She was usually patient, but Annie’s behavior quickly exhausted her.
“Skylar, don’t test my patience,” Annie snapped, irritated. She rarely faced setbacks, but recently, she’d encountered problems because of Skylar.
“I should be the one saying that, Ms. Silver. Leave if you’re finished. If you have any issues, go directly to Joe and stop bothering me,” Skylar said coldly.
Annie’s expression fell. “Skylar, do you know what you’re doing?” No one had ever told her to leave before.
“You’re the one who has no idea what you’re doing, Ms. Silver. It would be great if you could use your brain sometime. Until then, mind your own business and stop causing trouble for others. I don’t have time for your games,” Skylar retorted.
Annie narrowed her eyes, her face reddening with anger. “Skylar, you’re being unreasonable!”
“There’s no need to be reasonable when you keep harassing me. You wouldn’t understand reason anyway,” Skylar said, exasperated. As a TV host, Annie should be quick-witted and sensible, yet she lacked basic common sense.
Annie took a deep breath, her face paling. “I didn’t realize you’re so greedy. Fine, I’ll indulge you this once.” She would consider it charity from the Silver family to a beggar.
“Name your price!” she said.
Skylar initially thought arrogant people like the Williams family were rare, but there were plenty of others, perhaps worse.
“Don’t bother me unless you’re offering a billion dollars,” Skylar said, setting an astronomical price.
“Are you crazy? Skylar, offending the Silver family won’t benefit you. You’re relying on Mr. Martin’s favor to act recklessly, demanding a billion dollars? Your greed knows no bounds. If Mr. Martin knew how insatiable you are, he’d surely get rid of you.” Annie suddenly found Skylar repulsive.
Skylar responded coolly, “Mind your own business. You’re too young to be acting like a wicked stepmother.”
“Skylar!”
