Chapter 273
When Joe heard Skylar's reply, he looked down at his chest. The marks were all from last night, courtesy of Skylar. Not an inch was spared. They had left marks all over each other's bodies.
After laying Skylar on the bed, Joe opened the wardrobe. He frowned at the few simple pieces of clothing inside.
"What do you want to wear?" he asked, glancing back at the visibly exhausted Skylar.
Skylar, worn out from the previous night, yawned and pointed to a long black dress. "I'll wear that," she said.
There was only one black dress, so he took it out. He also grabbed her underwear and bra, placing them on the bed. "I'm going to change now," he said.
As soon as Joe left, Skylar looked at the underwear and bra, helplessly covering her eyes. The image of Joe handling her underwear lingered in her mind, making it impossible to think straight.
Christopher stood before the Gardner Group building. He watched people come and go, imagining Skylar working inside. The more he saw of Maisy's flaws, the more he appreciated Skylar's virtues. He deeply regretted everything.
His phone rang. He answered, "Mom."
"Have you seen Skylar?"
"I haven't seen her yet. Mom, I've been thinking. I wouldn't have betrayed Skylar if Maisy hadn't constantly tempted me. We might already be married. We promised to marry after college and then work hard for our family."
Whenever Christopher reminisced about the past, it felt like a knife piercing his heart. Regret consumed him.
Amelia's heart ached. "Son, this isn't your fault. Maisy's to blame. She's a seductress. It's not your fault. And Skylar she claimed to love you and wanted to marry you, but she refused to forgive you for one mistake. So she's at fault, too."
She paused for a sip of water. "The caregivers at the hospital are inattentive and expensive. Skylar took such great care of me. You should sweet-talk her. After all, she's no longer innocent, and you're being generous to take her back. She should come back and care for me."
In her mind, her son was an excellent man, and Skylar should be grateful. If Skylar didn't return, she would disapprove.
Christopher frowned. His mother was too optimistic. If Skylar could easily forgive him, she would have. Moreover, she was now working at Gardner Group, experiencing a different life.
"Mom, if I win her back, you must treat her better. She has a job now and probably won't care for you. If the caregivers are inattentive, we'll find others," Christopher said seriously.
He currently had a little over $400,000 left from the million Maisy gave him, after paying off debts. It wasn't enough to clear them all.
"Alright, whatever you say. It's good to know you care about your wife."
