Chapter 286
“Bullshit! What the hell are you saying?” Samuel’s face flushed with anger. He refused to be intimidated by Charles. Why would he fear a country bumpkin?
“Enough! If this continues, and someone records it, the director will be furious. Just drop it!” Vincent Brown, the assistant director, intervened.
Charles glared fiercely at Samuel, but respected Vincent enough to back down. This didn't mean he forgave Samuel, whom he considered a cowardly blowhard.
Feigning composure, Samuel said, “I’ll let it go this time for Vincent’s sake, but there won’t be a next time.”
“You’re right. Next time, I’ll beat you to a pulp,” Charles retorted, clenching his fists. He’d never backed down from a fight.
Charles’s intimidating stance made Samuel hesitate. He cursed inwardly, thinking Charles was nothing but a brute. Still, he retorted, “Charles, even with a hundred chances, you wouldn’t dare!”
“Alright, enough! It’s getting late. Everyone, head back to the hotel and get some rest. We have an early shoot tomorrow. Let’s keep it together!” Vincent impatiently urged them to disperse.
No one else spoke. However, Samuel secretly harbored a growing hatred for Charles.
Once in his Ferrari, Samuel called Peter. “I just saw Skylar. She was with some boy toy. We overestimated her. Now, she’s a self-degrading whore. She’s definitely not behind the trouble at the company. You’re overthinking it.”
“Don’t mention Skylar. I don’t want to hear about her. Focus on your acting. And if you have the money, send Kenny a few hundred thousand,” Peter replied.
Samuel, sensing Peter’s impatience, didn’t press further. He didn’t have much money in his account; his lavish spending left him with little savings, though his celebrity status ensured a high income. He transferred $200,000 to Kenny and called him.
“Kenny, I’ve sent you some money. From now on, Maisy is our only sister. Don’t mention Skylar’s relationship to anyone,” Samuel said. “It’s so embarrassing. I just saw her with some random guy. How much does she even make at Gardner Group? Instead of getting over being dumped, she’s gone for a boy toy. It’s disgusting.”
“Don’t talk about Skylar like that,” Kenny replied. “She’s our sister. We misunderstood her last time. As for Maisy… Skylar can’t compare to her.”
His tone shifted oddly at the end, but Samuel didn’t notice over the phone. Samuel, fresh from his altercation with Charles, felt resentment towards everyone connected to him.
“Skylar is no match for Maisy. Maisy would never casually sleep with other men,” Samuel declared confidently. He believed Maisy’s future husband would be exceptional—if not Joe, then someone equally impressive. That was the difference between Skylar and Maisy.
Samuel’s words tightened Kenny’s grip on his phone. Maisy, in fact, had invited him to a hotel for the night.
Meanwhile, Skylar, while driving, received several messages. She asked Joe to check them, worried Janine might need something urgently.
“Two people messaged you. Charles asked who you were having dinner with. And…” Joe trailed off as more messages arrived, pressing his lips together.
Skylar sensed something was amiss. “Who else?” she pressed.
“Your friend Natty sent some pictures of muscular men, asking which one you prefer. She even picked a couple out for you,” Joe replied, a small smile playing on his lips as he awaited her reaction.
