Chapter 293
โThis is between Skye and me. Outsiders should stay out of it!โ Christopher rebuked sharply, his face stern.
Skylar remained indifferent. Christopher's repeated appearances had numbed her to his presence.
โI forgive you,โ Skylar said icily.
Caleb started to speak, but Alexander stopped him. โLet her finish.โ
Alexander knew Skylar wasn't easily swayed. Perhaps, unaware of her ex-boyfriend's true nature, she might have forgiven him. But knowing him as she did, forgiveness seemed impossible. Besides, Skylar was married to Joe.
Christopher's eyes widened. โYou really forgive me?โ
Skylar continued coldly, โThe only way I can forgive you is if you drop dead right now.โ
Caleb chuckled. Skylar was undeniably direct.
Christopher stared, incredulous. โSkyeโฆ after all these years? It was just one mistake. And itโs a mistake all men make. Do you really hate me that much?โ
Alexander instructed an approaching security guard, โEscort this man to the police station and ensure he never approaches our employees again.โ
โYes, Mr. Gardner Senior!โ the head of security replied, moving toward Christopher.
Skylar thanked Alexander. โSorry you had to witness that.โ She had underestimated Christopher's shamelessness. A mistake all men make? His self-righteousness was appalling. Despite her past affection, and despite everything, he didn't appear financially strained.
Skylar's mind raced. After Amelia's surgery, Christopher should have been short of cash. Yet, he seemed unconcerned about money. A troubling thought surfacedโthe video she'd seen. Could Christopher have profited illegally from it? The image of Christopher and Maisy turning on each other, locked in a vicious cycle of betrayal and revenge, flashed through her mind.
As she watched the traffic light, her gaze hardened, growing colder.
At Martin Group, Joe finished signing documents and called Paul into his office.
โWhatโs the situation with the Williams family?โ Joe asked.
โThey should be on the brink of bankruptcy. I havenโt been following closely, but Iโll check immediately,โ Paul replied.
Paul was surprised. Why was Joe raising the Williams family's situation? Joe had been unusually cheerful lately, a stark contrast to his usual impassivity. Perhaps it was related to Skylar, Paul thought.
โDonโt give the Williamses any breathing room,โ Joe ordered sternly.
โUnderstood. Iโll take care of it immediately,โ Paul replied, feeling a chill. Knowing Joeโs ruthlessness, the Williams family would soon be overwhelmed by debt and homelessness if given no respite. They were incredibly foolish. If they had treated Skylar well, things would have been very different.
After Paul left, Joe checked WhatsApp on his phone.
