Chapter 297

"Yep. With Mom's natural beauty and these products, she'll look even more beautiful," Skylar said.

"You're right, Skye. Mom has worked hard for us all these years. Now that we're grown up and can care for ourselves, she should live the life she wants and be happy," Harvey replied.

He planned to buy Janine various skincare products, clothes, and bags once he started working and earning money. Janine would have everything other mothers had.

Both Skylar and Harvey went downstairs to collect the remaining items.

"You've grown up!" their mother said, patting Harvey on the shoulder with pride. It was as if she were saying, "Look, my little brother is all grown up. Not only is he a top student, but he can also carry all these things upstairs without breaking a sweat. How impressive."

"I'll be heading to university soon, so of course, I've grown up. Skye, you can come to me if you ever need anything. If anyone bullies you, I can take down two people at once," Harvey boasted, flexing his muscles. Despite his heavy study workload, he never neglected exercise; he couldn't disgrace his family's excellent physical condition.

Skylar chuckled. "Well then, keep working out. I believe in you!"

"I'll go help Mom," she said, heading toward the kitchen.

Seeing Janine bustling around in the kitchen, Skylar felt a pang of distress. "Mom, let me finish the remaining dishes. Go to the living room and try on the clothes and shoes I bought for you."

"Why are you buying things for me again? At my age, I don't care much about appearance. Whatever I wear looks the same. You should pamper yourselves instead," Janine chided, knowing Skylar was dutiful but also feeling sorry for her.

"It's normal for a daughter to buy clothes for her mother. I'm sure you want to look good at your age too. Go try them on quickly. I'll take care of the rest," Skylar insisted, gently pushing Janine out of the kitchen.

Only three simple dishes remained to be cooked. Persuaded by Skylar's determination, Janine reluctantly removed her apron and left.

In the living room, Janine was astonished by the large pile of clothes, shoes, and skincare products. "Did you buy all of this?"

"Skye is right, Mom. You should treat yourself better sometimes. When I start earning money, I'll also buy things for you. Go try them on quickly," Harvey urged, fearing Janine's concern about the expense.

Janine was concerned. Skylar didn't earn easily, and these items must have cost a considerable amount. But seeing her children's hopeful expressions, she agreed and took the clothes to her bedroom.

In less than two minutes, Janine emerged.

Harvey was amazed. "Mom, people will no doubt think you're my sister if they see us together," he exclaimed.

"You cheeky boy, stop teasing me. I'm going to show your sister!" Janine giggled uncontrollably, having checked herself in the mirror. She felt ten years younger.

"Skye, do you think I look good?" Janine asked, standing at the kitchen door.

Skylar's eyes widened. "Mom, you look absolutely stunning and so elegant! We look like sisters!"

She wasn't exaggerating. Janine looked much younger. Despite having several children, she maintained her figure, ate healthily, and had a good complexion. She didn't look like a woman approaching 50.

Janine had married Finn at eighteen and become a young mother. Then Finn had an accident, and his body was never found. For years, Janine had managed the household alone.

Just then, there was a knock at the door. Harvey, thinking it was Steven and Charles, opened the door. His smile froze instantly upon seeing who it was.
