Chapter 333
Although Sadie had lost her legs, she still had her eyes. She clearly saw how she had been treated these past few days. While they stayed at the hospital to care for her, their demeanor was consistently frowning. If Sadie needed help with the bathroom, they showed disgust. If she complained of leg pain, theyโd retort that all amputees experience pain, instructing her to endure it and be considerate of them.
โMom, weโve been dedicated. Weโve put aside other work to focus on your hospital care. How is that not dedicated? One must act with a clear conscience, and we are. Youโre the one who has been irritable and sensitive these past few days,โ Kenny said, frowning.
Maisy gently tugged on Kennyโs arm. โKenny, donโt. Momโs in a bad mood, and we need to understand. She doesnโt want to be like this. Itโs my fault. I should have gotten a different soup today.โ
Sadie was already a patient, and the doctor had advised against indiscriminate eating. The soup had been sent from the hotel at Maisyโs request. Despite their dedication, Sadie remained overly critical.
โMaisy, youโre so understanding,โ Kenny said tenderly. In his eyes, Maisy was a pitiful, bullied young woman, while Sadie had become the evil stepmother.
As Sadie listened, she suddenly remembered something. Her face paled. This scene felt familiar.
Skylar had spent most of the day resting at the hotel. After lunch and medication, she felt rejuvenated. Joe had just texted that Jennyโs surgery was moved up to today. She replied, telling him to stay at the hospital and not worry.
Bored, Skylar went to the cinema next to the hotel. She changed clothes and went. The cinema was almost empty, likely due to it being a weekday. She watched a comedy; besides her, only a couple occupied the theater, making it feel like a private screening. Unfortunately, she couldn't have popcorn due to her recovering stomach.
The couple sat two rows ahead. Within minutes of the movie starting, they began kissing passionately, oblivious to her presence. Perhaps only those deeply in love would kiss anytime, anywhere.
For some reason, Skylar felt down. The movie, usually hilarious, wasn't funny at all. Finding it unbearable, she left early.
As she exited, the couple noticed and exclaimed, โOh, there was someone here! It wasnโt just us! Sheโs probably single and canโt stand us showing off our love!โ
Skylar was speechless.
After leaving, she checked a map and saw a nearby beach. She walked there, found a quiet spot, sat, and silently admired the ocean. Her stomach wasn't quite right, so she avoided water activities. Time seemed to stand still.
Suddenly, a shadow fell. Skylar looked up to see Christopher. Her face darkened.
โSkye, weโre meant to be together. Donโt you think so?โ Christopher looked at her with deep affection.
Skylarโs expression turned cold. She didn't hide her disgust. โHow did you know I was here?โ
