Chapter 339

Skylar stormed out of the bathroom, visibly upset. As she left, she turned back and angrily shouted at Joe, “Men are real assholes once they’re off the bed!”

Joe was taken aback by her outburst. He hadn't seen her so angry, or use such language. However, he wasn't mad. He felt Skylar was becoming more comfortable expressing her true emotions around him. This was the real her, and her authenticity made him want to pull her back to bed and hold her close.

After breakfast at the hotel, Skylar accompanied Joe to the hospital to visit Jenny. They left the hotel without looking around.

Meanwhile, a disheveled and stubbly Christopher watched them leave. Their interaction appeared intimate. His eyes filled with fury, he muttered, “Skylar, you rejected me for him? When did you become so shallow? What kind of person is Joe? He’s never lacked for female attention; he’s just playing with you.”

He knew the hold Joe had over women. Ordinary people like himself seemed insignificant in Joe's presence. Christopher had been captivated by Maisy's wealth—a woman he wouldn't normally approach. This had clouded his judgment. He understood this path intimately, and though pained to see Skylar following it, he was determined to help her escape. He would find a way to take Skylar away.

The hotel was expensive. With limited funds, Christopher couldn't afford to stay; he'd been at a small guesthouse the previous night and planned to remain there. He waited for his opportunity to take Skylar away.

Hospitals always smell of disinfectant. Skylar remained by the window, observing the intensive care unit, rather than entering. Joe, after changing into sterile clothing, entered Jenny's room. Whatever he said seemed to make Jenny very happy. She had recently undergone surgery and was under observation, but she had much to say, and they talked for a long time.

When visiting hours ended, Jenny reluctantly let Joe go. He comforted her before leaving the intensive care unit. Jenny turned to look at Skylar. Seeing Skylar's stunning beauty, Jenny's smile faltered slightly, but she quickly and politely nodded. Skylar returned the smile.

Joe joined Skylar, putting his arm around her. "Let's go," he said.

"What about here?" Skylar asked.

"Leave it to Paul," Christopher replied.

"Okay."

Jenny watched the couple embrace, a pang of discomfort in her chest. Was it the surgery, or the realization that Joe genuinely liked Skylar? Regardless, she felt undeniably uneasy.

After leaving the hospital, Joe took Skylar by boat to an island near Korel City. The island's hotels and entertainment facilities were Martin Group properties.

"Do you like diving?" Joe asked.

Skylar's eyes lit up with excitement. "I've never gone diving before, but I'd love to learn."
