Chapter 372

When they noticed Karey was alone in the ward, Peter asked, "Where's Maisy?"

"She had to help a friend; I can take care of Mom alone," Kenny replied.

Samuel was far from satisfied. "Mom's still recovering. Isn't she more important than some friend of hers?"

Kenny frowned. "Our world doesn't revolve around Mom. Maisy did her best to help when this happened. There's no need to be so strict. Don't you guys have things to handle, too?"

"Enough. We shouldn't be fighting," Peter said, weary of the argument. He glanced at Sadie, who was sleeping fitfully. The sight irritated him immensely.

"I'm so sick of this! Everything's crumbling! The company's in trouble, Mom's unwell, and my job? I was practically promised roles, but they chose someone else! Now I have nothing!" Samuel exploded. He'd contacted the director and higher-ups, but they ignored him or claimed he wasn't right for the roles. Some even suggested he brush up on his acting skills.

"Him? Brush up on his acting skills? What a joke!"

Kenny's frown deepened. "You're right. My job hasn't been smooth sailing either."

"The company won't last much longer. Dad and I are trying our best, but we can't keep an eye on family matters. So, we need Skylar home," Peter said solemnly.

"Didn't you say you have a plan to get her back?" Kenny was exasperated. He'd taken leave to care for Sadie, but she wasn't grateful, and neither was she pleased with Maisy. His job was also suffering. Skylar's return was the best solution.

"Tomorrow, we'll bring in reporters and media. There's a popular show that mediates issues; experts will be there. Skylar will have no choice but to come home. Mom wants her home, so she has to return," Peter said coldly.

Samuel scoffed. "She deserves this! Everyone will see her true colors—what a bad daughter she is! She'll have to listen and come with us."

Kenny was startled. "You'll go that far?" He feared this would only widen the rift with Skylar.

"If we don't, do you think she'll listen? We've given her chances; she refused them all! Has she ever been nice to us? What kind of job can she get at Gardner Group? Wouldn't it be better if she came home and cared for Mom? We'll compensate her. It's far better than her spending money on sugar babies. Just thinking about it makes me sick," Samuel said through gritted teeth. Charles had even punched him over this.

"We've already talked to the media. They think this will get clicks, so they'll persuade Skylar and force her hand," Peter said.

Kenny nodded. "Then let's proceed. We've given her several chances; she's too stubborn."

"You can leave Mom to the nurse tomorrow. We'll find Skylar together. The more pressure, the better," Peter decided.

Sadie regained consciousness. Remembering her dream, she said, "I had a nightmare. We were awful to Skylar. She was in a car accident—worse than mine—and we left her for dead. She was trying to save me, yet I saw her as a burden. Then…karma came for us. We all died gruesome deaths!"
