Chapter 408

Natalie doubted Annabelle was Jeremy's type. During their movie and TV nights, Jeremy never seemed interested in actresses who resembled Annabelle. Furthermore, Jeremy wasn't one to pursue readily available women; he preferred a more challenging pursuit.

Skylar didn't dwell on it, but she had a nagging suspicion. Ultimately, she trusted Jeremy and their relationship. Their situation was entirely different from hers and Christopher's. Moreover, Jeremy and Natalie's families were well acquainted.

Annabelle, laden with shopping bags filled with new clothes, was on the phone with Jeremy.

"Mr. Hughes," she said in a soft, flirtatious voice, "please don't do that again, like this morning. I slept in until 10:00 a.m., and my back is killing me."

A passerby overheard, his eyes widening in shock. Was this intended for his ears?

He was captivated by her stunning figure; her beauty was almost dizzying. He knew he wouldn't be able to resist if things escalated.

After ending the call, Annabelle noticed the man staring at her lustfully. A disdainful smile played on her lips. How dare an ordinary man harbor such thoughts about her?

The man scoffed at her disdain. "Mr. Hughes, huh? You're probably just his little plaything! What's with the act?"

Annabelle bristled at his mocking tone. "You!"

He leered. "What's the matter? Trying to seduce me now? You're a looker, I'll give you that. Beg me nicely, and maybe I'll consider spending the night."

The man disappeared, leaving Annabelle fuming. His vulgar remark struck a chord, echoing a truth she desperately tried to ignore: she was Jeremy's plaything.

"No," she thought, "I will be Mrs. Hughes!"

A glance at her watch showed lunch was almost over. She decided on a quick bite before heading to the Gardner Group across the street, but first needed to retrieve something from her car.

Skylar and Natalie parted ways after lunch. Skylar returned to her workroom to continue her restoration.
