Chapter 422
The Williams family was already in chaos, but Kenny and Maisy's secret relationship added another layer of tension. Peter felt a knot of unease tighten in his gut, sensing the family on the brink of collapse. He was uneasy; their family seemed poised for collapse.
Skylar went to Sadie's room. Sadie slept alone. Skylar was surprised by Sadie's appearance. The Williamses' constant pronouncements about loyalty and dedication seemed to vanish when it came to Sadie. Sadie's room was spotless, yet her complexion was pale and lifeless, a stark contrast to someone meticulously cared for. Compared to Skylar's past lifeโparalyzed and neglected, her room a testament to her sufferingโSadie's situation seemed almost luxurious.
Tears welled in Sadie's eyes at the sight of Skylar. But Skylar's cold stare felt like a chokehold, stealing Sadie's breath.
"Skye," Sadie struggled to speak.
Skylar's demeanor remained icy. "You requested my presence, Mrs. Williams. What is it you want?"
Sadie felt even more distressed. "Skye, I was wrong. Can you forgive me? I realize how wrong I was."
Skylar raised an eyebrow, impatience flickering in her eyes. "Forget forgiveness. What do you want?"
She wondered if the Williamses thought feigning remorse would win her back.
Sadie burst into tears. "Skyeโฆ do you truly hate me? Because if I treated you as I did in that dream, I would hate myself too."
The mention of the dream caused Skylar's lashes to flutter slightly. Memories of her bedridden past life flooded back. Sadie's life would have followed a different path without Skylar's interference in this lifetime. The car accident had left her with hazy, fragmented dreams of her previous existence. Would Sadie have repented without the accident? Skylar dismissed the thought as impossible.
Jeffrey and the others stood by the door, uneasy at Skylar's coldness.
"Since you know I would resent you so deeply, why bother asking? It seems you have nothing else to discuss. I have already visited you. Please refrain from sending anyone else to find me in the future," Skylar stated coldly.
It was almost certain that Sadie only experienced flashes of her previous life due to the car accident. She wasn't a reincarnation like Skylar.
"Wait! Skye, could youโฆ could you come back home? Can you give me a chance to make it up to you? After all, I carried you for ten months. I know I've done wrong, but can you give me a chance to repent?" Sadie pleaded anxiously.
Skylar snorted. "Don't you fear Maisy might misunderstand your attempts to win me over? Given all that has transpired, Mrs. Williams, spare yourself the effort."
"Sheโฆ she hasn't treated me well. After all, she's not my biological daughter." Sadie's past fondness for Maisy seemed foolish. She used to think biological ties were unimportant as long as Maisy pleased her. She now realized her error.
Maisy, eavesdropping, felt a surge of anger. She bit her lip to hold back her retort.
Skylar paused. "It has nothing to do with me." Then she walked toward the door.
Jeffrey and the others formed a human barricade, blocking her exit.
"Step aside," Skylar demanded.
