Skylar smiled and asked, “Are you absolutely sure you didn’t hurt me?”

Just then, Caleb’s phone rang. He hesitated, but seeing it was John, he answered. “Uncle John, what’s up?”

“When are you coming home?” John asked.

“I’m with Skylar, sorting things out. We’re having dinner later. I’ll be home afterward. I’m not a kid anymore. Don’t worry,” Caleb replied, rolling his eyes internally. He was annoyed by his parents and John’s childlike treatment of him.

He suddenly remembered something. “By the way, Uncle John, do you know the Williams family? Someone there threatened me—said he wanted to kill me. I’m a Gardner, right? My parents aren’t in Jipsburg, so could you help?”

Caleb never shied away from trouble.

“The Williams family? Skylar’s biological parents’ family? Are they bothering you and Skylar?” John’s voice turned icy.

“Yeah,” Caleb acknowledged.

“Wait. Take care of Skylar,” John said before hanging up.

The mention of the Gardner family and Caleb’s assertive tone terrified the Williams family. They wondered if it was the Gardners.

“I heard Mr. Gardner Senior has a grandson named Caleb. Could it be…?” Maisy’s eyes widened.

“Yeah, that’s me,” Caleb confirmed.

Skylar hadn’t expected the call. It shocked Jeffrey and the others. They bullied the weak and feared the strong.

“This was a misunderstanding…” Peter stammered, trying to salvage the situation. He hadn’t realized Skylar’s colleague was Alexander’s grandson. If he had known, Samuel wouldn’t have dared to speak so recklessly. Samuel was stunned. “How could you be Mr. Gardner Senior’s grandson?” He couldn't believe Skylar, who grew up in the countryside, was friends with Caleb.

It was unbelievable to him. “If I’m not his grandson, are you? With your behavior, my grandpa wouldn’t even like you,” Caleb smirked, sneering unapologetically. He looked at Skylar. “You don’t even share the same surname. How shameless to claim they’re your family! If your family behaves like this, leave immediately.”

Skylar smiled and nodded. “You’re right. I’m lucky to have left early.”

“Let’s go,” Skylar said.

Caleb glanced at Samuel. “I’ll wait for you to kill me.”

“Wait!” Kenny called out anxiously. “Could you explain? It was a misunderstanding. If we’d known he was Mr. Gardner Senior’s grandson, Samuel wouldn’t have acted that way. Please tell him not to hold a grudge. Also, can you find Joe and ask him to help us?”

“Why should I?” Skylar retorted.

Caleb clicked his tongue. “You’re all idiots, but I’m not! This wasn’t a misunderstanding. Move aside!”

He pushed Kenny aside. No one dared to stop him.

Suddenly, Jeffrey boomed, “Because I’m your dad! He’s your brother!” He turned to Sadie. “Cat got your tongue?”

Sadie met his fierce gaze with a wry smile. “Back then, you didn’t want Skylar to change her last name, fearing she’d get a share of our estate. Now you’re claiming you’re her dad, and I’m her mom? How could she possibly believe that?”
