Chapter 440, Part 1
Natalie followed Hank and Austin's gazes. Seeing Jeremy hadn't left, she waved. He smiled, nodded, and sped off. Afterward, Natalie said, "Yes, he's my husband. He drove me because he was free."
Hank stared at the limited-edition car. "There can't be more than two of those in Jipsburg City," he muttered, glancing meaningfully at Austin. "Are you just here to experience the lives of us peasants?"
Natalie replied, "I'm here to work!" She didn't want to be misunderstood. If she'd known this would happen, she would have told Jeremy to leave immediately. She'd told Hank and Austin she was married, but not about their finances. Jeremy's car was clearly expensive.
Hank said nothing, but he didn't believe her. Yet, Natalie didn't act like a privileged housewife; at work, she was hardworking and dedicated. He found Jeremy familiar, handsome enough to be an actor. As an agent, he knew such a man would be successful in entertainment, and he suspected Natalie's husband was also involved in business.
Austin seemed lost in thought, likely immersed in his character since filming was imminent. Natalie didn't disturb him, choosing to let her actions speak for themselves.
Chapter 440, Part 2
The next day, Skylar awoke in Joe's arms. He'd returned; she hadn't heard him. As she pondered this, Joe turned, pinning her down. His sleepy eyes were now bright and intense.
"Have you forgotten what you promised me last night?" he rasped, his voice dangerously sexy.
Skylar, still drowsy, asked, "What did I promise?" She had no memory of it.
"You're not breaking your promise, are you? I'll play the recording," Joe said, guessing she'd forgotten her sleep-muddled words.
As he played the recording, Skylar's mind raced. "I wasn't awake. It doesn't count. Let me get up to make breakfast," she said, pushing him. He remained unmoved, holding her tightly. As she struggled, her face flushed; she felt the change in his body and froze.
He leaned down to kiss her, roughly, as if punishing her. Her breathing grew ragged.
He whispered, "If you don't fulfill your promise, guess if I'll let you go to work today."
Knowing he wouldn't, Skylar kissed his Adam's apple. His eyes darkened. "Go on," he said huskily.
Afterward, lust lingered in his eyes as he leaned against the bed frame.
