Chapter 478
Skylar was not only good at her job but also friendly and kind. No one on her team disliked her; her beauty, kindness, and capabilities were universally appreciated.
"You don't need to repay me so soon," Skylar replied. "Your health is more important. Rest well."
Raine was touched. "Skylar, you're such a wonderful person!" she exclaimed.
Their conversation was brief, ending with the arrival of Raine's husband. Skylar informed him of Raine's condition before returning to work. En route, Raine transferred money for her medical bills, adding $500 for gas and a car wash.
Skylar arrived at the office half an hour later. Just as she was beginning her work, Caleb approached her with news: the woman they'd refused was back.
Skylar couldn't immediately recall who he meant. "Who's that?" she asked.
Their work frequently involved restoring artifacts. Some antiques were beyond repair, others not worth the effort; they naturally declined such commissions.
Caleb leaned in, whispering, "She's the one who asked you to repair the porcelain shards. She also tried to win over my grandfather—both through sympathy and seduction—to get her way. I forget her name. You said the porcelain was a tainted item."
A tainted item? Skylar thought. She'd only seen one recently—the porcelain Annabelle had brought for repair. She remembered every crack.
"Why is she here again?" Skylar asked. "Does she want something else restored?"
She was surprised; she'd just encountered Annabelle at the hospital. Who knew they'd meet again so soon? Annabelle hadn't seen Skylar at the hospital, having had her back turned.
Caleb snorted. "She's not here about something else. It's still the porcelain. But this time, the price isn't low." He held up two fingers. "Two million."
Skylar's expression sobered. She clearly valued the porcelain highly, inferring its importance to Annabelle's goals. Otherwise, Annabelle wouldn't be so persistent.
Annabelle was strikingly beautiful but tended to make people uncomfortable.
"Grandpa refused her," Caleb continued, "but she's insistent on seeing you. She thinks you might agree for two million."
Skylar nodded. "Alright, I'll take a look."
They went to Alexander's office. Alexander was seated far away, instructing Annabelle to place the luggage containing the porcelain at the door.
Annabelle was puzzled. She sensed Alexander's disdain for her antiques, but knowing his unpredictable temperament, she couldn't understand his request.
She'd heard about Skylar Sullivan, one of Alexander's students, known for her exceptional restoration skills, rivaling even Alexander's. She'd underestimated Skylar before.
This time, her goal was simple: offer a high price to secure Skylar's services. Two million, she believed, was substantial for someone so new to the industry. Even if the porcelain was severely damaged, Skylar would likely accept the commission for such a sum.
Upon Skylar's arrival, Annabelle turned to her immediately. "Ms. Sullivan."
Skylar nodded. "I know why you're here, Ms. Green. I'm sorry, but I can't help you."
