Chapter 486
Jeremy stubbed out his cigarette. "Is Skylar with you?" he asked.
Joe raised an eyebrow. "Why are you looking for my wife, all of a sudden?"
Joe searched Galaxy Villa for Skylar, checking upstairs and downstairs, but to no avail.
"I wanted to ask her if she knew anything about Natalie," Jeremy said.
"Your wife?" Joe asked.
"Yeah. She didn't come home tonight."
"What a coincidence. My wife didn't come home either."
Silence fell between them. Jeremy's suspicion vanished. It seemed Natalie hadn't lied; she was with a friend, along with Skylar.
"You're behaving strangely," Joe said. "You're here to confirm something you already know, aren't you? Has your wife found out about your affair with that secretary?"
Since discovering Jeremy's affair with Annabelle, Joe had anticipated it escalating. Their circle held few secrets. Many pretended ignorance, and the aristocrats in their arranged marriages looked the other way. However, Jeremy and Natalie were different.
After a moment, Jeremy said, "She'll never find out. That secretary was a mistake." He planned to resolve it tomorrow. He wouldn't let Natalie find out, and such a situation wouldn't happen again.
Joe hummed. "Alright, I'm hanging up now."
He then called Skylar. After a few rings, she answered. "Why aren't you home?" he asked.
Skylar, sitting on the couch, explained that Natalie had been crying and felt upset. She'd gone to shower. Skylar had received Joe's call but, preoccupied with comforting Natalie, had forgotten to tell him she wouldn't be home. Knowing Joe's relationship with Jeremy, she used the same excuse as Natalie.
"We're with a friend who's had some trouble. We won't be home tonight," she said.
Joe's expression changed, but he didn't press further. "Alright," he said.
Later, lying in bed, Joe found himself unable to sleep. He sat up, frowning. Where had Skylar's friends come from? Would she rather be with her friend than him?
A chill seemed to fill the air. Ruthlessness hardened his features.

However, calming down, Joe furrowed his brow. He realized his attachment to Skylar had become excessive. Had he fallen for her?
He immediately dismissed the idea. He enjoyed sex with Skylar, and appreciated the good sleep and stable emotions she provided. It wasn't romantic love. After all, Skylar didn't like him, did she?
Realizing his emotions were again affected by Skylar, Joe's expression turned serious. He stood and went to his study. It was time for some virtual conference calls.
Annabelle scrolled through her phone. Natalie seemed to have disappeared after Annabelle gave her the address. If Natalie had been upset, Jeremy would have already sought her out. Natalie might have come to check if Annabelle was telling the truth, but nothing of the sort had happened. What was Natalie thinking?
