Chapter 494
Jeremy received a call from the hospital immediately. Annabelle's operation was a success, but the doctor also informed him of her condition. He listened impassively as the doctor detailed Annabelle's history of miscarriages, explaining that the child wouldn't have survived regardless.
A few minutes after the doctor hung up, Annabelle called. Her voice wavered as she spoke. "Mr. Hughes, our child is gone." Her tone was filled with longing.
Jeremy instructed coldly, "Someone will be taking you out of Jipsburg. You're not allowed to enter Jipsburg again from today onward."
Annabelle bit her lip, protesting, "Isn't that too ruthless? Furthermore, Mrs. Hughes has misunderstood our relationship. Don't you need me to help explain? If I disappear today, wouldn't Mrs. Hughes doubt us even more?"
"I've never thought of destroying your family," Annabelle continued, her voice laced with helplessness.
Jeremy cut her off sharply. "I don't need you to explain."
Annabelle clutched her phone tightly. "Let me rest in the hospital for a few days. I feel horrible."
To keep Natalie, he didn't care whether Annabelle lived or died. He wondered, if Natalie had had the abortion, would he have been less merciless? Annabelle had no idea how Natalie was superior to her.
Finally, after her desperate plea, Jeremy relented. "I'll give you one day."
Annabelle smiled weakly. "Alright." One day was better than immediate deportation. Much could happen in a day.
After dealing with Annabelle, Jeremy remained in his office for another hour. Then, he asked his secretary to pick up takeout from Natalie's favorite restaurant.
He arrived home with several of Natalie's favorite dishes. He knew she would be there.
She emerged from the kitchen with her own lunch: a simple plate of pasta. She wasn't surprised to see him; she expected his return that afternoon. However, she had only prepared pasta for one.
"I've gotten takeout from your favorite restaurant. Give it a try," Jeremy said, staring intently at Natalie. She seemed calmer than earlier.
Natalie replied flatly, "There's no need. I've made pasta. You can eat it." She found him repulsive, let alone the food he'd brought. She had no appetite.
