Chapter 500
Skylar wondered if the food was even edible. She had never seen Joe cook before; she hadn't even seen him eat breakfast when she first moved to Galaxy Villa.
"Of course," said Joe proudly. He'd spent half an hour making it, after all.
Skylar walked downstairs, a mixture of excitement and nervousness coursing through her. She was excited that he'd made her breakfast, but nervous about whether it would be palatable.
Rebirth wasn't easy; Skylar much preferred remaining alive and certainly didn't want to be poisoned.
When she saw the breakfast spread, she sighed in relief. It was perfectly acceptable.
"Overnight oats, boiled eggs, and some fruit. What do you think?" Joe had wanted to cook her pasta or oat porridge, but he didn't know how to operate the stove, how much water to add, or even how to cook noodles.
Thankfully, he'd discovered the oats could be easily mixed with milk and yogurt, and the boiled eggs presented no difficulty.
Skylar gave him a thumbs-up. "You're wonderful, Mr. Martin! This is a nutritious spread. I was craving yogurt when I woke up."
Perhaps from reading too many novels, she'd assumed people who couldn't cook produced horrible, or even kitchen-fire-inducing, food. This proved Joe to be resourceful.
"Let's sit down and eat. If it's not enough, we can have more yogurt oats," Joe said, grinning at her praise. It was satisfying, perhaps even more so than negotiating billion-dollar business deals.
"Alright."
Skylar arrived at the office an hour later. Paul called her secretly. "You're full of ideas, Ms. Sullivan. Mr. Martin came in today like a new man. I made a mistake earlier—he would have previously made me 'fuck off' to solve the problem I created—but he simply said he understood that humans make mistakes and asked me to pay more attention in the future. I was terrified! I thought his soul had been swapped!"
Skylar didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Stop reading those fantasy novels," she replied.
"Either way, I hope you get along well with Mr. Martin! My future depends on it. I'll treat you to dinner when you're free!"
Skylar was amused. Where had Joe found such a colorful character? If Paul weren't so capable, she might suspect Joe had hired him simply for his uplifting spirit.
Natalie thought she wouldn't sleep, but she drifted off shortly after closing her eyes. She woke at 9:00 a.m., having slept ten hours. For breakfast, she had milk and bread.
She received a message from Annabelle on Instagram. Natalie was doing her best to avoid thinking about Jeremy and maintain distance from him. After hesitating, she opened Instagram to read Annabelle's message:
"I've lost my child. To avoid a divorce, he sent me to the hospital. Natalie, you're one of the people who killed my baby. I know Jeremy likes me, but he cares more about your family. If he divorces you, he'll be scolded by your family. So he sacrificed me and the baby. This is what you wanted, right? The baby was a life! Natalie, why don't you come and see for yourself the 'mistress' you all talk about? What have I suffered because of the two of you? I just finished my operation, and he's already chasing me out of Jipsburg. Natalie, I shouldn't have destroyed your marriage, but why would he touch me if he didn't like me? Even if this was wrong, we all played a part in it!"
The passage is significantly improved with corrected grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. The excessively informal language ("fuck off") is replaced with a more appropriate alternative. Paragraphing is also improved for better readability.
