Chapter 52
“It’s all in the past. It doesn’t matter whether they were good to me or not,” Skylar said quietly, afraid of worrying her brothers. If they learned about her past life, they might confront the Williams family.
Deep down, Steven and Charles reached a conclusion: the Williamses hadn’t treated Skylar well.
“The Williamses’ PR team is stellar. We have to be prepared for the worst, Skye,” Steven said gravely.
Skylar nodded. “When I made that post, I knew it might cause a huge fuss.” Besides the videos, she had conversation histories and records of blood donations she’d made over the past six months.
She didn’t care about falling out with Jeffrey and Sadie. They hadn’t cared about her, so she didn't care about them.
After considering, Steven handed his phone to Skylar. “Skye, look at my conversation with my friends. I think they have valid concerns.”
“Sure.”
Skylar read the conversation. A dark, icy expression crossed her face. Many things had happened since her rebirth; she felt she might have acted too hastily.
At the Williams residence, Sadie looked at the wall clock. It was 11:00 p.m.
“Your father summoned Peter to the office hours ago. It’s 11:00 p.m. Why haven’t they come home yet?” she asked Samuel.
Samuel was on leave. He had plenty of time and was scrolling through online comments. Their family’s PR team was efficient, managing the situation well. He wouldn’t be surprised if Skylar apologized tomorrow morning.
“Work’s been busy, hasn’t it? I called Peter, but he didn’t answer. Go to bed, Mom. Maybe Dad and Peter are at a social event. They might not be back tonight,” Samuel said casually.
Sadie stood and headed upstairs, saying, “Yes, the company’s been partnered with the Martin Group for two months. It’s not surprising they’re busy. You can stay here tonight. Maisy’s locked herself in her room; she’s probably scared and upset. Talk to her later.”
Samuel’s eyes lit up. “Our family has a partnership with the Martin Group?”
Sadie nodded proudly. “Martin Group sees potential in us. There have been many positive changes since Peter joined the company. Our family’s future in Jipsburg City is bright. Your father even plans for Maisy to marry Joe. So, today’s incident must be handled properly. We can’t let others get to Maisy. As for Skye, we’ll send her overseas after a proper apology.”
“Joe’s interested in Maisy?” Samuel asked, surprised and excited. He wondered if the Martin alliance meant he could dominate the entertainment industry.
Sadie remembered Joe’s cold response to Maisy. She almost said no, but considered that someone of Joe’s background might be naturally aloof. She nodded. “Maisy is an outstanding woman. He’ll come to like her.”
“I’m going to see Maisy!” Samuel rushed upstairs.
As Sadie followed, she noticed something. A painting was missing from its usual spot in the living room. She frowned, considering asking a housekeeper, but decided against it. It was a cheap online purchase; its absence didn’t matter.
By 11:30 p.m., Skylar returned to Galaxy Villa. The downstairs lights were on. She tiptoed upstairs, quietly entered her room, showered, and then scrolled through her phone in bed.
