Chapter 537

Toward the end, Skylar teetered on the verge of consciousness. Even her fingers were numb. For the first time, they hadn't showered immediately afterward.

When the morning sun streamed through the window and fell on Joe's face, his eyes snapped open. He remembered falling into the Silvers' trap before losing control. He tensed immediately.

The room was a mess. Traces of their actions from the previous night were strewn everywhere.

Despite his loss of control, his body wouldn't lie. Had he touched Annie last night? Anger consumed him. He wanted to kill her.

Joe shouted coldly, "Annie, you have a death wish!"

The woman beside him didn't move. She appeared to have been brutally assaulted. Even her exposed shoulders bore the marks of the previous night's violence. The sight churned Joe's stomach, and waves of nausea washed over him.

He would end the Silvers!

Joe roared furiously, "Get lost!"

The air seemed to grow colder.

Skylar was still fast asleep. She felt extremely weak and utterly helpless; she couldn't even open her eyes. However, she sensed she was in a strange place, with someone deeply displeased by her presence.

But no matter how displeased they were, they couldn't disrupt her sleep, could they? How dare they tell her to leave?

Before opening her eyes, she retorted, "You should get lost! Asshole."

Her soft, familiar voice halted Joe's anger.

Joe immediately glanced at the woman facing away from him. Seeing Skylar, he relaxed his jaw.

He'd spent the night with Skylar, not Annie.

The nausea subsided rapidly. He felt comforted and reassured. Skylar opened her eyes. Sore and unwilling to move, she nevertheless remembered someone telling her to leave, and her sleepiness vanished.

She turned to see Joe looking at her. Her expression soured.

"Weren't you disappointed when you woke up and saw me, Mr. Martin?" she said. "I tried pushing you away last night while you were holding me and calling Annie's name. You were too forceful and wouldn't let go. You shouldn't have had Paul call me if you wanted me to leave. Now, you're the one who should be getting lost!"
