Chapter 547

Rowan refused to let Annie in. Though Annie Khew knew Rowan was home, she received no answer after repeatedly ringing the doorbell and making numerous calls. No one answered the door or her phone calls.

Rowan was likely disappointed by the previous night's events.

"Rowan, I know you're home. You must be able to hear me. I truly didn't think things through. I saw no other way out of our situation and agreed to their plan. Considering our years of friendship, I'd be eternally grateful if you'd vouch for me with Joe. This is the last time I'll ask. I'm sorry," Annie said.

She walked away. Looking back, she saw the door remained closed. It wouldn't open anytime soon. She bit her lip and left.

After she departed, the door opened. Rowan stood there, his lips twitching. "What was she doing?" he muttered. "She ignored my warning yesterday. Now she's suffering the consequences!"

Annie returned home after her visit to Rowan. The Silvers' discussion had yielded nothing, leaving them exhausted after a long day. They dispersed one by one.

Only Grayson and Sabrina remained when Annie arrived.

Upon seeing her, Sabrina rushed forward, asking impatiently, "How did it go? Did Steven agree to help? Will he ask Skylar to vouch for us?"

Annie, having not slept at all the previous night and mentally exhausted from the day, replied weakly, "Steven likes me and believes me. Coincidentally, Skylar is meeting him tonight. He'll probably speak for us then."

"Probably? What do you mean 'probably'? He needs to do everything he can to get us out of this mess. He shouldn't be thinking about you if he can't even do that. He doesn't deserve you," Sabrina snapped.

Annie felt frustrated. Sabrina's reaction seemed justified to her. Hadn't she faced reality? This time, they were in over their heads.

Grayson looked dismayed. "Is Steven confident? Will Skylar listen to him? I heard they aren't biological siblings. Will that make things harder?"

Annie said worriedly, "Dad, I guarantee I've done everything I could. The outcome, however, is uncertain."

"As for Skylar… she might have prepared something to make Steven hesitate. He might never want to see me again. And will Joe drop his revenge on us for Steven's sake? If yesterday hadn't happened, he might have given us some leeway regarding Skylar. Now…"

She had tried her best to fix things, convincing Steven it was all a misunderstanding rooted in the past. However, she couldn't underestimate Skylar or Joe. What Skylar couldn't do, Joe certainly could.

Grayson looked pale.

Sabrina looked horrified. "If this doesn't work, what do we do? Your grandfather's in chaos, your uncles are planning to leave Jipsburg. I I've lived in Jipsburg a long time. I don't want to leave just like that."

Annie clenched her fists. She felt lost, terror throbbing in her heart. "It's too late to leave now. It's not your choice. Have you seen what happens to people who try to drug Joe and leave Jipsburg?"

For some reason, Annie panicked. She could only hope she meant enough to Steven that he would stand by her, no matter what Skylar said or did.
