Chapter 626
All of that had truly happened. Natalie sighed internally. She must have been selfish; that was why she couldn't get past it.
Kate's expression changed abruptly. She said softly, "Nath…"
"Mom, I know what you'll say, and I know you'll try to talk some sense into me. I understand."
Their eyes met for a moment, followed by a long silence. Kate's concerned gaze pierced through Natalie.
Natalie finally broke the silence. "I can try getting back together with Jeremy for a while. If we manage to forget what happened and become as inseparable as we once were, we'll stay married. If not—"
Kate quickly interjected, "I believe you two will be able to love each other like you used to." As her mother, Kate didn't want Natalie to divorce Jeremy. They couldn't entrust Natalie to anyone else with complete confidence but him.
Natalie had no words to describe her feelings about Kate's optimism. In the past two days, she'd reminisced about growing up with Jeremy, recalling how ecstatic she was when they'd officially become a couple. These memories made her hesitate.
Kate didn't stay long, leaving after offering a few more words of advice. She felt less worried than when she'd arrived.
After Kate left, Natalie leaned against the door, then slid down slowly. Fifteen minutes later, she stood, walked to the balcony, and looked out. Cars zoomed on highways snaking through a forest of skyscrapers. Natalie had grown up in Jipsburg, and this was the first time she felt the urge to escape. However, she needed to face her problems head-on. In the end, she made a decision.
Meanwhile, Jeremy had just left the Hughes residence. He closed his eyes to relax in the car; visiting always left him exhausted. He'd seldom asked Natalie to accompany him; the Hughes family's affairs were complicated, and Natalie was a simple woman who would be easily manipulated.
When he thought of his situation with Natalie, the furrow between his brows deepened. Suddenly, a call came in. Seeing Natalie's name on the caller ID, he gripped his phone so tightly his knuckles turned white.
He answered. "Nath."
"Jeremy, I can go home, and we can try to be together again. However, you must promise me that if we remain estranged and can't love each other like before, we'll get a divorce," Natalie said.
Jeremy frowned at the mention of divorce. However, getting Natalie back had been hard enough.
"Alright, I promise. I'll pick you up and take you home now," he immediately replied.
The hint of excitement in Jeremy's voice made Natalie's heart ache. She found herself reluctant to go home. Yet…
"Alright, I'm at the apartment."
Natalie arrived home half an hour later. Looking at the familiar walls, she felt like breaking her promise. With her eyes cast downward, she inquired, "Could I sleep in the guest room?"
She couldn't pretend like nothing had happened. Perhaps she would succeed one day.
Jeremy briefly fixed Natalie with a dark gaze. He nodded. "Alright."
Natalie sighed in relief. From the moment she stepped inside—no, from the moment she saw Jeremy—memories of him and Annabelle flashed across her mind. Those videos and pictures caused her faith in her decision to waver.
She decided to give it another try for the younger selves they once were, certain they would spend their lives together. Perhaps she would eventually forget those scenes.
