Chapter 698

Molly's eyes widened. She felt deeply wounded by Edwin's words, stumbling back. "Edwin Martin! You knew they stopped. Nothing really happened. Why are you insulting me?"

Joe had inflicted horrific physical and psychological abuse, leaving no evidence. They had stopped before anything truly transpired, though the horrors were recorded; she had no physical proof. Yet Edwin mocked her. Why? If not for him, she wouldn't have been so humiliated. A member of the esteemed Martin family for years, her dignity lay shattered.

Edwin took another gulp of wine. "If it was so humiliating," he asked, "why did you enjoy it?"

"Enjoy it? You've indulged in too much pleasure; your body couldn't keep up. I was forced to enjoy it. Perhaps I should thank you. Though you're his father, you're utterly powerless against him."

Molly, losing composure, shrieked at Joe with all her might. While Edwin womanized, he returned home each nightโ€”but never touched her; he lacked the energy. Molly, a normal woman, merely performed for othersโ€”justifiable, she felt. Both Molly and Edwin prioritized self-interest; if this were a crime, they were both guilty.

Today, Joe's forcefulness was extreme. She couldn't escape. Edwin had a chance to sever ties with Joe to protect her, yet his actions were leaked, and she was sacrificed. The irony! This wouldn't have happened in any other family. Edwin couldn't control, threaten, or even manage his own son. What kind of man was he?

Meeting her gaze, Edwin understood her thoughts. "Are you looking down on me? Alright. Let's get divorced tomorrow morning," he said, his eyes gleaming cruelly. What a son he hadโ€”ruthless, even surpassing Edwin! Familial bonds meant nothing. Joe, seemingly setting Molly straight, was actually teaching Edwin a lesson. Edwin had been spectacularly wrong.

"A divorce? Edwin, I'd never divorce you! You used me; now you want to discard me? In your dreams! I won't comply!"

"After all these years, I know your vulnerabilities. If your relatives found out, you'd become their embarrassment. Their belief that you're a useless fool will be cemented," Molly stated firmly, pale and clinging to a handrail for support, yet unwavering.

Edwin, livid, grabbed a bottle and threw it at Molly. Weak, he missed. Looking at the shattered glass, Molly chuckled coldly. "Perhaps this is what Joe wanted. To see us attack each other, destroying our dignityโ€”revenge for his dead mother."

They calmed immediately, staring silently. After a while, Edwin said, "We'll pretend this never happened. He's just venting. It won't do any real damage."

"Alright, darling," Molly said, her former smile returning.

Edwin nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "I'll make sure Joe pays for this. I'll avenge you."

"Thanks, darling."
