Joe strolled over, his long legs moving at a leisurely pace. Skylar nodded. “Yes, it’s much better. I’ve been applying ointment daily, so there shouldn’t be any scarring.” Though her injuries were minor compared to life itself, she cared about her appearance. Scars on her forehead and hands would be noticeable.

Before she could finish, Joe swept her into his arms. “I asked Dr. Stone. We’re cleared for marital activities.”

“What did you say?” Skylar stared at him in disbelief. He had actually asked Drake. She had a checkup scheduled for tomorrow. How would she face Drake now?

Before she could ponder, Joe set her down on the bed. His warm breath brushed her lips. “Focus.” Since their intimacy began, Joe had always taken the lead. His dominance made refusal impossible.

Skylar spent the entire night with no time or energy to consider her hospital visit the next day. They moved through the night, their bodies entwined until exhaustion overcame them.

As she trembled uncontrollably, she asked in a daze, “Are you in love with me?” A drop of sweat fell at the corner of her eye. He held her close, feeling her tremors, and asked, “What did you just ask me?”

Skylar slowly regained her awareness and weakly shook her head. “It’s nothing.” “I’ll carry you to the shower.” Joe didn’t press further. As always, he carried her to the shower after their time together. Skylar hummed in response.

Chapter 719

After her shower, Skylar found herself unable to sleep. Joe also had trouble sleeping. She sensed he had something on his mind.

Sure enough, he spoke up. “Grandma wasn’t feeling well at Avalon Residence. She always fell ill when she went there, but this time, it seemed worse.”

Skylar immediately asked, “Did Grandma specify where she felt unwell? Did she see a doctor?”

“We have a family doctor, but they found nothing serious. They suspected fatigue from the long drive. Still, it didn’t seem right,” Joe said seriously.

Skylar couldn’t stay calm. “Did she go to the hospital afterward?” Gloria’s health was fragile; timely medical attention was crucial.

“We went to the hospital first. Don’t worry. She felt much better after leaving Avalon Residence,” Joe assured her.

Skylar breathed a sigh of relief. “She felt better after leaving?” She seemed to have thought of something.

Almost as if reading her thoughts, Joe pulled out his phone. “Here’s a video of Avalon Residence I had someone take. It covers almost every corner. Do you have the energy to watch it?”

The phrase “Do you have the energy” left Skylar momentarily speechless. After shooting him a look, she tapped the screen to start playing.

The video showed sounds and glimpses of people. However, Skylar’s attention wasn’t on the people but the decorations and furnishings.

Avalon Residence was quite large, and almost every part was shown except for two rooms. “These two rooms aren’t in the footage,” Skylar pointed out.

Joe nodded. “Those two rooms belong to Uncle Derek and Uncle Garth. Their rooms are usually off-limits.”

“There doesn’t seem to be any issue with the areas shown,” Skylar confirmed.

Joe frowned. “If there were something unusual, it would likely be in their rooms, but there’s nothing out of the ordinary.”

“Could it really just be a coincidence?” Skylar wondered, puzzled. Avalon Residence seemed normal. It was a place of excellent fortune, even better than Pearlhall Residence, where Gloria lived. Such a place usually didn’t allow significant disturbances from negative influences.

Gloria only felt unwell after returning, which meant any negative influence would likely have affected other residents. But according to Joe, everyone else in the family was fine.
