Chapter 745

Vera found Skylar's presence revolting. After all, her relationship with Joe was ambiguous. Molly understood Vera's implication; they had met occasionally overseas, and Molly recognized the pride underlying Vera's feelings. However, Molly knew others were unaware of Jeremy's marriage.

“You’ve said yourself Skylar is just his lover,” Molly said. “Joe hasn’t dated anyone in years. He'll break up with her soon. Don't worry. You can talk to him as usual.”

Humiliated, Molly loathed Skylar intensely. The more Joe valued Skylar, the more determined she was to separate them.

Vera remained noncommittal, simply saying, “I’ll leave it to fate.”

Joe had just received a message from Rowan: “Skylar and I ran into Vera. I think Skylar knows her. I saw the video of you and Vera this morning, too.” Reading the message, he recalled Skylar’s coldness the previous night. Had she seen the video?

As Skylar drove to Galaxy Villa, a million-dollar deposit from Rowan appeared in her account—a token of appreciation. Before she could respond, he sent a voice message: “Hiring a divination master would cost tens of millions. You’ve saved us all. You must take the money. No need to reply.”

Skylar accepted, replying simply, “I’ll take it.”

Arriving home, Skylar started upstairs for a nap. A few steps in, she heard noises behind her. Turning, she saw Joe had returned home—well before the end of the workday. Why?

“Did you see the video?” Joe asked.

Skylar paused, replying, “Yes. It’s gone viral.”

“Don’t believe it,” Joe said, approaching her with an intense gaze.

Skylar smiled. “Alright, I’m tired. I’ll nap now.”

Joe watched her go, noticing she hadn’t inquired about his relationship with Vera. He frowned. Did she believe him? Or did she simply not care?

Skylar intended a short fifteen-minute nap, but awoke an hour later to find Joe gone. She prepared a simple dinner. During her meal, Steven called—a rare occurrence outside their conversations during Charles' crisis.

“Steven.”

“What are you up to?”

Skylar glanced at her pasta. “I’m having dinner. Have you eaten?”

“I’m eating now,” Steven replied, his voice sounding strained. She put down her fork. “Are you feeling ill?”

“I have a bit of a cold, nothing serious. I’m getting better. After everything with Charles, I haven’t had a chance to talk to you. How are things with Joe?”

Skylar smiled. “We’re getting along well. Don’t worry. Will you be able to come home for Mom’s birthday?”

“Yes. I’ve been working overtime, but I’ll manage. Charles can make it too. Invite Joe. He was instrumental in resolving Charles’ crisis,” Steven said.
