Chapter 778
Skylar prepared a few dishes and then sat down to wait. Joe, if free, would usually return home around this hour, though he was occasionally twenty minutes late. Twenty minutes passed, but there was no sign of him; it seemed he hadn't been home for several days.
Skylar ate dinner and cleaned until 7:00 PM. Then, the doorbell rang. Visitors to Galaxy Villa were rare; the Pearlhall Residence helpers entered directly, without ringing.
She approached the door and saw Vera on the screen. Surprised, Skylar opened the door; ignoring her presence would have been impolite, especially with the lights on.
Vera showed no surprise at seeing Skylar. Considering Joe's generosity in letting Skylar drive Vera's gifted car, Vera had sent someone to investigate Skylar's movements, discovering she hadn't been at Galaxy Villa for the past few days.
"I'm here to talk to you," Vera stated.
Skylar understood that if Vera wanted to speak with Joe, she wouldn't have come to Galaxy Villa; it was too risky. Skylar nodded and invited her in.
After Vera sat, she surveyed the surroundings. Though she'd heard Joe spent much time here, she'd never visited before. The mansion felt warm and inviting, perhaps enhanced by Skylar's presence. Vera glanced at Skylar's attire, noting she seemed quite at home. Discomfort stirred within her.
"So, why did you want to meet me?" Skylar asked. She didn't dislike arrogant people, but Vera's condescending manner was unsettling.
"You've been flitting between different men, trying to please them all. Isn't it tiring?" Vera accused. All articles about her and Joe had been erased, a fact Vera suspected stemmed from Joe's desire to avoid relationship rumors. She didn't dwell on that, choosing instead to confront Skylar directly.
Vera believed Skylar was motivated solely by profit, willing to sell herself for money. If bribed, she wouldn't be a problem.
Skylar's expression hardened. "What's wrong with you?" she scolded.
Vera frowned, continuing her arrogant tirade. "There's no need to act. You're with a different man every time I see you. I don't know how you manage it, or why Joe is so forgiving. But it doesn't matter. Name your price." Money, she believed, solved everything.
Skylar chuckled mockingly. "You think I have complicated relationships with men just because I've dined with them or attended events? Did one of your middle school teachers teach you how to reason, or did you learn this overseas?"
