Chapter 793
No one could hold a candle to Paul.
After a few seconds, Skylar calmly replied, “If he’s got a cold, he should get that checked at the hospital.”
Paul was completely bewildered. He said, “Uh… Mrs. Martin, would you like to come over and take a look? Mr. Martin doesn’t like seeing doctors when he’s sick. He dislikes medicine and ignores my advice. After all, he pays me, and I must follow his rules. You're more effective than I am in this situation.”
“He doesn’t listen to me either. You can ask Ms. Ruell for help. I’m still busy and can’t talk right now, so I’ll hang up,” Skylar replied.
The beeping sound after Skylar hung up stunned Paul. Her attitude… This was a significant problem!
Had they completely severed ties? Skylar had even mentioned Vera. Could it be… Did they have a falling out because of Vera? Was Skylar less important to Joe than Vera?
This…
Calling Paul only deepened his confusion. If Joe cared for Vera, he should have been happy about his falling out with Skylar; at least he could have explained his behavior to Vera. However, Joe didn't seem happy at all.
Things were difficult now. The most pressing issue was Paul's inability to understand Joe.
Skylar's thoughts wandered after ending the call. Caleb had found someone to book their plane tickets.
When Skylar returned, she looked pale. He immediately asked, “Skylar, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
She seemed fine when he left. Why had Skylar's expression changed so drastically after he left? It had only been a few minutes.
Skylar collected herself. She put her phone down and replied, “Nothing much, I probably didn’t sleep well last night. Have you booked the tickets?”
“I have. We fly this afternoon and arrive tonight. Mr. Yates Senior will send a car to the airport to pick us up,” Caleb said.
Skylar said, “Alright.”
“Are you sure you’re alright?” Caleb sensed Skylar had been acting strangely for the past few days.
Skylar shook her head with a smile and answered, “I’m fine.”
She’d taken Janine to the hospital for an examination. Janine was recovering well. Steven had taken a short break to care for her at home, allowing her to continue working.
As for her and Joe…
They probably wouldn’t remain at an impasse for long. She believed Joe was waiting for the right time to begin divorce proceedings. Skylar just needed to wait.
When Paul got home, his mother tried to convince him to go on a blind date.
After politely refusing, Paul retreated to his room, where he received a call from the detective.
“You asked me to look into Jenny a while ago. I’ve found some information on her.”
Paul had completely forgotten. He’d run into Jenny several times that week. Nothing seemed amiss except her desperate attempts to speak with Joe.
Paul dismissively asked, “What did you find?”
“She’s been going to hotels at night, but different ones each time. Due to security and client confidentiality, I couldn’t follow her inside.”
“Hotels? She has a perfectly nice apartment in Jipsburg. Why would she go to a hotel for no reason?”
The detective chuckled. “What else would she do at a hotel? Young people are using hotels for all sorts of things these days. I’ve had clients hire me to investigate their partners. What I’ve found has been quite shocking. Some were involved in group sex with their bosses and clients for promotions. Others discovered their girlfriends were sleeping with their fathers. It’s a big world with a lot of strange behavior. Would you like me to investigate further? If I do, I'll find out who she's seeing very quickly.”
