Chapter 842

The question took Natalie by surprise. Her reflexes were sluggish from the alcohol; she felt adrift in a dream, though she knew it wasn't.

“In the past… you yourself mentioned the past. We made many promises then. But you cheated, Jeremy. Those negative influences clouded your judgment, but I know better. If you'd been truly determined, Annabelle wouldn't have interfered. However, such unwavering determination is rare. Jeremy, I know everything. I tried to understand you, but I realized I couldn't live with this broken relationship.”

Natalie watched Jeremy's rage. Drunk, her tongue felt heavy and clumsy, yet she spoke her innermost thoughts.

“Don’t you have Helena now? Focus on the future. Jeremy, you’re like a brother to me, always, until the end of my life.” Beyond that, nothing.

Jeremy punched the wall, his jaw clenched. Natalie's words struck him like a bolt of lightning. She noticed his injured hand, the bleeding knuckles, as a flicker of sobriety returned. "I'll get my first-aid kit," she said.

Minutes later, she treated his wound with practiced ease, her movements honed from countless times tending to Austin's filming injuries. Hank had taught her well, too. As she cleaned the wound, her own drunkenness faded, replaced by bewilderment at his unfamiliar anger. He’d never been like this before; she thought he’d truly left their past behind.

Silence fell. Jeremy studied her.

After leaving him, Natalie had grown, changed. A light shone in her eyes, a light he hadn’t kindled. Her transformation after the failed marriage had been profound.

The thought of Austin's interest in Natalie choked Jeremy. He gasped for breath, then grabbed her hand. She jumped, trying to pull away.

“Jeremy?” Did he even know what he was doing?

Tears welled in his eyes. He stared intently at her, asking, “Don’t you feel even a hint of jealousy seeing me with Helena?”

Natalie froze, understanding his outburst. He was concerned about her lack of jealousy.

“If I were still your wife, I would be jealous. However, we’re divorced,” she said calmly.

Jeremy's eyes reddened further. His grip tightened as he pleaded, “Let’s get back together.”

Horrified, Natalie started, “You…”

“I only agreed to the divorce to help you move on. I never meant to push you away. Natalie, you’re my one and only wife,” Jeremy insisted.

Her expression shifted. She stood abruptly, shaking him off.

“Jeremy, you’re mad! Remarrying you has never even crossed my mind since our divorce!”

He had a new woman, and they were divorced. Their relationship was shattered. How could they remarry?

Jeremy’s face drained of color. He fixed a furious glare on Natalie.
