Chapter 860

“Rowan?” Vera echoed. She had heard about Rowan and Jenny’s situation, knowing Rowan was recently engaged. A sneer flickered across her face. She’d always suspected Jenny wasn’t as innocent as she appeared. Rowan’s engagement confirmed her suspicions; Jenny was clearly using him.

“Alright, I’ll arrange it. I’ll let you know when it’s set up. When will you be discharged from the hospital?”

Jenny replied, “I should be discharged by next week.”

“Okay.”

In the hospital ward, Jenny stared at her phone, struggling to mask her distress. She’d been completely shut out by Joe, despite every effort. Moments earlier, she’d received her termination letter. Being on probation, the company offered compensation. Joe’s words rang true—she could no longer see him.

If her mother had orchestrated the car accident, Joe would never easily forgive her. Now, her only hope rested on Rowan. By humbling herself, she believed she could regain his favor, break off his engagement, and then, through him, gradually win back Joe.

What her mother had done wasn't her fault. Edwin had coerced her into making the videos; she was a victim. She deserved better.

Just then, a nurse entered with medication, startled by Jenny’s dark expression. “Ms. Scott, you…”

“What about me?” Jenny snapped, glaring.

The nurse, unprepared for her outburst, cautiously approached to change the dressing. Jenny remained lost in thought, absent-minded. As the nurse left, she subtly shook her head. Jenny’s mood swings were dramatic; previously polite, she’d become irritable and harsh in the past few days. She’d had few visitors, but thankfully, discharge was imminent.

Joe slept until 2:00 PM. Waking to find Skylar absent and the room disheveled, he smiled. He went downstairs, but Skylar was nowhere to be found. He wondered if she’d gone to work and called her.

“Are you at work?”

Skylar replied, “I took the day off. I’m going to my mom’s. By the way, Ms. Ruell came by about an hour ago. I left what she brought on the table by the door.”

“Okay,” Joe responded, then asked, “When will you be back?”

Skylar was surprised by his lack of interest in Vera’s visit. “Probably after dinner.”
