Chapter 864
Before Paul could finish his sentence, someone appeared behind him. Joe snatched the phone from Paul's hand. Skylar, on the other end, was puzzled by the sudden silence, then heard Joe's voice.
"If you're so concerned about me, why not call me directly?" Joe asked.
Skylar was taken aback. She hadn't expected Joe to overhear, much less intercept the call. Fortunately, she'd recently had coffee; her mind was sharp. "I thought you might be busy," she replied quickly.
"Call me directly next time," Joe commanded.
"Alright," Skylar said.
Expecting Joe to return the phone and end the call, she was surprised when he said, "Find some time to come by my company."
Skylar was perplexed. "Aren't you worried your employees will find out about our relationship?" she asked.
"They'll know sooner or later. Once we have the wedding, everyone in Jipsburg will know you're my wife," Joe replied.
Skylar gripped her phone tightly. A weddingโthere was no mention of divorce.
After a brief silence, Joe's eyes darkened slightly. "Alright, I'll get back to work," he said.
"Okay, bye," Skylar replied.
After the call, Skylar fell into thought, contemplating her relationship with Joe. Caleb's arrival, seeking help with an issue, broke her reverie.
She hadn't expected the wedding dresses to arrive so soon. Not only were her selections delivered, but several more had been sent. A designer and staff had also arrived to assist.
Skylar arrived home first, finding Edgar and the designers already there. After apologizing for the wait, she began trying on the dresses.
On the third dress, Joe returned. Upon seeing Skylar, he was captivated.
Edgar, observing Joe's unwavering gaze, smiled inwardly. Joe's feelings were evident. Skylar was undeniably beautiful, possessing a stunning figure. Even the designer praised her physique. The dress accentuated her fair skin, making her look breathtaking.
Initially unaware of Joe's presence, Skylar was focused on the dress, responding to the designer's questions about comfort and fit. Though not all the dresses would be used, the experience was real.
A chance glance revealed Joe's arrival and an aggressive look in his eyes.
"Mr. Martin, don't you think this wedding dress looks particularly beautiful on Mrs. Martin?" Edgar interjected smoothly.
Joe withdrew his gaze, clearing his throat. "Well, it's not bad," he said heavily.
Observing Joe's reaction, Edgar thought, "What do you mean 'not bad'?" He was speechless, thinking Joe was simply being stubborn.
