Skylar’s heart ached as she looked at Wendy, who resembled a broken doll, her unshed tears welling in her pale eyes as she stared at her family. Simona urgently asked, "Wendy, how are you?"

Wendy had befriended Wendy in school, only to find herself a year older than her new classmates. She shook her head weakly. "I… I'm fine." But she knew she could never return.

Valencia and Jimmy, initially eager for her to forgo college and marry, would surely forbid her return now. Valencia scolded, "Of course you're fine! Get discharged, go to the police, clear this up, then call those boys' parents and demand compensation. Stay home and don't cause any more trouble! You've embarrassed us!"

Wendy trembled violently, her pallor deepening, yet her tears remained unshed. "Mom, I did nothing wrong. They bullied us." But Valencia, Jimmy, and Keith remained deaf to her pleas. "If you were innocent, why were you targeted? If you hadn't flirted with them, would they have bullied you?" Jimmy spat, "How disgraceful!"

Simona cried out, "Didn't you hear what Wendy said? You're the real jerks!" Skylar asked coldly, "Do you realize you're aiding criminals? Do you understand the consequences?"

Keith sneered, "What crime? Students? We'll give them a chance if they apologize and pay. Don't scare us." He turned to Wendy. "Come with us."

Wendy recoiled, her face ashen, yet her resolve firm. "I don't want money. I want those boys to pay for what they did."

Valencia lunged toward Wendy, ready to strike. Physical abuse, it seemed, was commonplace. Wendy stepped back, despair etched on her face. "Only when I'm dead will you be satisfied? No, I can't die. Even then, you wouldn't mourn me."

Keith sneered, "Go ahead and die. At least your death would be valuable—more money from those boys' parents." Jimmy stepped forward, hand raised to strike. "We sent you to school for a wealthy husband, and now you're ruined! You need a lesson!"

Valencia roared, "Ungrateful girl! Who do you think you are? We supported you! Without us, you'd be begging!"

As Jimmy lunged, Skylar intervened. "Did you hear what she said?" Simona added, "Wendy, we'll face this together. Don't be afraid."

Jimmy tried to shove Skylar aside. As he reached for her, someone kicked him away. Joe, his face grim, checked Skylar for injuries. Skylar, relieved, explained that she'd called for help and given her phone to Simona, fearing the situation might escalate. Valencia demanded angrily, "Who are you? How dare you hit people!"
