Ending the call, he turned to Skylar. "Skylar, I'm leaving."

Skylar smiled and nodded. "Go ahead."

Simona's reconnection with friends indicated her healing from her trauma. Skylar had planned a getaway with Joe to a hot spring resort.

She spotted Joe's car curbside as she left Gardner Group; he'd chosen a less conspicuous vehicle. Upon entering, he was already on the phone.

"I have a commitment today," he said, frowning. After a pause, he added, "Alright, I'll be there in thirty minutes."

Skylar's smile faded; their plans were clearly canceled.

Joe ended the call and turned to her. "Rowan's had a family emergency, and Mr. Jakeman needs me to go. You should head home and wait for me. We'll go to the hot springs tomorrow."

"Okay," Skylar replied, reaching for the door handle. "I'll just take a cab."

Joe stopped her. "No need. We'll pass Jakeman Residence on the way."

Skylar settled back.

Joe updated Skylar during the drive. "Rowan had a disagreement with his family about breaking off his engagement with Minerva. Mr. Jakeman Senior disapproved, and Rowan created a scene, requiring disciplinary action."

"Discipline him?" Skylar was surprised. She considered such practices outdated, wondering what it entailed. Past methods often involved slapping, grounding, or harsh punishments.

Joe's expression grew serious. "They're expelling him from the family. He's disowned."

"That extreme?" Skylar's expression reflected the gravity of the situation. This wasn't mere punishment; it was complete severance. Rowan likely hadn't anticipated such severe consequences.

They arrived at Jakeman Residence. Joe exited, and Lucas drove Skylar back to Galaxy Villa.

About an hour later, Skylar received a call from Joe.

"I'll probably be very late tonight. Don't wait up, and get some rest," he said.

"Okay, I understand," Skylar replied.

Joe hadn't elaborated, but the situation seemed complex. Rowan clearly had strong feelings for Jenny.

It was the middle of the night when a phone notification startled Skylar awake. She saw it was 12:30 AM. A WhatsApp message from Vera—a photo, not text.

The photo showed a group celebrating around a birthday cake; Vera was front and center, beaming. Skylar noticed Joe among unfamiliar men; his handsome face stood out.
