Chapter 913
The scene called for subtle glances and physical intimacy in bed. For actors, such scenes were commonplace and didn't usually feel awkward. But for Natalieโฆ
She took a deep breath, mentally chastising herself, "What am I even thinking?" It was just a rehearsal. They were simply running lines, exchanging glances to help Austin get into character. Actual intimacy wasn't necessary, nor would she ever consider it. Even the thought was quickly dismissed.
The first run-through went smoothly. Impressed, Austin complimented her, "Have you ever considered studying acting? Even in rehearsal, you picked things up quickly and responded well to my cues."
Natalie shook her head, smiling shyly. "You're just being kind. I'm not that good."
She sensed Austin's expectations were low, understandably so, as he wasn't judging her by professional acting standards. This likely explained his gentle approach and his belief in her potential.
"Let's move on to the next scene," Austin said, smiling.
Natalie's nervousness increased as she glanced at the scene description. "Mr. Powell," she confessed, "this next scene is far too intimate. It's mostly eye contact between the characters. I can'tโฆ perform that. Perhaps you could just act it out, pretending my face is the female lead's?" She deliberately omitted the physical aspects; intimacy was difficult, but eye contact she could manage.
With a low, serious tone, Austin replied, "Alright."
Despite her reservations, Natalie immersed herself in the role, wanting to help Austin as much as possible. She'd observed his filming daily and absorbed some professionalism. But Austin's gaze held an intensity that made her heart race; she could feel the sexual tension building.
Thankfully, she remained focused. Otherwise, she might have misinterpreted Austin's intentions. Privately, she gushed, "Oh my god! Mr. Powell is so charming, and his acting is incredible. It's like I'm the female lead! That's the magic of Mr. Powell. I have to tell Skylar about this later."
A year ago, she wouldn't have imagined being in this position, assisting Austin with his scenes. Initially scattered, her mind gradually became absorbed in the scene. Then, her thoughts went blank.
She didn't realize when it happened, but everything faded to black before she was kissed. The kiss deepened. Then, a knock on the door jolted them back to reality.
Natalie recoiled, staring at Austin in shock. "Mr. Powellโฆ"
Austin swallowed hard, his gaze dark and intense, a palpable desire in his eyes.
The knocking persisted, insistent and loud. Austin looked at the still-shocked Natalie. After a moment, he said, "I'll get the door."
It was Harlan Hurlbutt, a studio colleague. He was taken aback. "Mr. Powell? Wrong door? Shouldn't Nath be in here?"
"We were rehearsing a scene. Is there something you need?" Austin asked, his tone stern.
Harlan sensed Austin's irritation. Knowing his dedication, Harlan assumed he was upset at the interruption. He stammered, "It'sโฆ it's nothing important. I'll talk to her tomorrow."
Austin closed the door. Harlan stood outside, puzzled. He couldn't understand why Austin was rehearsing with Natalie; he'd always practiced with Hank. Hank had just been in his room, looking for someone to have a drink with. Harlan shook his head.
