Chapter 954
During breakfast, Joe casually mentioned, "Paul has booked our flight tickets to Fachington for the day after tomorrow. You can inform Mr. Gardner Senior and take some time off."
Skylar looked up in surprise. "Flight tickets for the day after tomorrow?" Having completed all her work, she could leave for Fachington without worry.
"Yes," Joe said, his tone even. "We'll also shoot our wedding photos there." His calm delivery suggested this wasn't a mere performance for Gloria.
"You've made up your mind?" Skylar asked cautiously.
Joe met her gaze. "Didn't I prove enough last night?"
Skylar took a deep breath. "What I mean is, are you truly sure about not getting a divorce? We're planning a wedding, taking wedding photos... Once everything is set, there'll be no room for regret."
"We won't be getting a divorce," he stated firmly, his gaze sharp. Joe wondered if Skylar still harbored thoughts of Aiken.
Slightly taken aback, Skylar hesitated. "If this isn't just a contractual marriage, then there shouldn't be a third party involved. If you ever want a divorce because of someone else, I'd prefer you tell me beforehand."
Joe raised an eyebrow. "Can you stick to that?"
"Of course," she replied resolutely. After all, she initiated the conversation.
Joe smirked. "Alright, remember what you said."
On Monday morning, Skylar requested leave from HR and delegated some tasks to Caleb. Caleb looked dejected at the prospect of Skylar's absence for half a month. "I can't work without motivation if you're gone," he said. "I might as well take a break too." He was also aware she was traveling with Joe.
It was clear their relationship was stable; their trip further solidified this. Caleb, who had once hoped for their divorce, saw that hope fading.
"Focus on your work, and I'll bring you back a gift," Skylar said, patting his shoulder. To her, Caleb was like her brother, Harveyโboth needing playful encouragement.
Caleb brightened. "Really? You promise?"
"Of course. If you run into any issues, just message me on WhatsApp, and I'll reply when I can. I believe in you. Work hard."
"If you believe in me, then I definitely believe in myself," Caleb replied. "I'll handle this workload easily."
After ensuring Caleb understood his tasks, Skylar met with Alexander. The rest of the workday passed quickly.
That evening, she informed Natalie of her flight the next day. Natalie didn't respond immediately, which Skylar attributed to the time difference and Natalie's workload; Austin had been filming non-stop.
It wasn't until the next day, en route to the airport, that Natalie replied: "I slept all day yesterday. Mr. Powell has been filming night scenes for days. Ah! Are you surprising me on purpose? When will you arrive? I'll check my schedule and ask Mr. Powell if I can pick you up."
Skylar glanced at Joe. She texted back, "Joe's already arranged a pickup. Don't worry, I'll find you in a day or two."
Natalie replied quickly, "Joe's thoughtful. Alright, I'll focus on work today."
"Yes, focus on work."
A few minutes later, another message arrived: "Skylar, I've been working with Mr. Powell for so long, and after we got really into our roles and kissed, it seems like I canโt view him the same way anymore. Anywayโฆ Iโm feeling quite strange right now. Once you get here, Iโd like to talk it over with you and get your advice."
