Chapter 964
Natalie, now fully sober, said, โI didnโt drink much. I was just a little tipsy.โ A wave of regret washed over her. Sheโd sung terribly off-key at the party, hogging the microphone. The embarrassment was intense; she felt like a fool.
โYour singing was better than back in college,โ Skylar laughed. โHave you been practicing secretly?โ
Natalie looked despairing. โLetโs justโฆ cut off contact.โ
The next day, the thought of facing Austin and Hank filled her with dread. She felt she'd made a social mess of things. Later, in bed, she confessed worriedly, โThese past few days, working with Mr. Powell, I keep feelingโฆ off.โ
โOff how?โ
โSometimes, when I see him, I keep remembering him kissing me. Even though I know it was just for the scene, I stillโฆโ
โStill what?โ
Natalie bit her lip. โI still think Mr. Powell is truly an Oscar-winning actor. His kissing skills are incredible.โ
Skylar thought, Is that the main point? A twitch of amusement played on her lips. โSo, his kissing skills have you fixated? Want to try again?โ
โItโs possibleโฆ Mr. Powellโs kissing skills are so impressive, my mind went blank! Iโve been fixated on his kissing skills and want to try again. Iโm obsessed with Mr. Powellโs kissing skills.โ Natalie seemed to have stumbled upon a new self-awareness.
Skylar struggled to contain her laughter. โYou didnโt considerโฆ anything else?โ She wondered if Natalie was solely focused on his technique, not him as a person. She hesitated to ask directly, fearing she might misinterpret Natalieโs feelings. After all, given her current confusion, whether Natalie liked Austin or could develop feelings for him remained uncertain.
โAnything else? I remember accidentally touching Mr. Powellโs abs that day. You wouldnโt believe how disciplined he is. His diet must be sheer willpower!โ
โHis physique is maintained through hard work. He looks thin in clothes, but he has incredibly well-defined muscles underneath. Thatโs Mr. Powellโhis physique is incredibly tempting,โ Natalie said, practically drooling.
She realized she was craving Austin's physique again. These thoughts felt safe only with Skylar. Talking about it eased the strange feelings.
Skylar was speechless. โYouโve often mentioned how great Mr. Powellโs physique is.โ
โThat was different. Back then, I only had videos and photos. Now, I see him every day. I can touch him, even kiss him. Itโs a feeling thatโs hard to put into words,โ she sighed, feeling her vocabulary inadequate. A flutter of excitement still accompanied the memory.
โHave you had anyโฆ improper thoughts about Mr. Powell? Like, trying to make a move on him?โ Skylar asked cautiously.
Natalieโs eyes widened. She shook her head vehemently. โIโve had some improper thoughts, like wondering what Mr. Powell looks like without clothes. But I wouldnโt dare make a move on him. Besides being my boss, heโs my idol. I know my limits. Even if it werenโt Mr. Powell, Iโm not interested in pursuing anyone right now. My career is my focus.โ
After her setback with Jeremy, she wasnโt ready for another all-consuming romance. The thought of marriage was terrifying.
โLetโs talk about something else. Arenโt you and Joe taking wedding photos in a few days?โ Skylar changed the subject.
Skylar didnโt press further, simply nodding. โThe day after tomorrow.โ A sense of foreboding lingered.
Natalie, tired and oblivious to Skylarโs subtle apprehension, cheerfully nodded. โThatโs great! Youโll look stunning in any wedding dress. Joe wonโt be able to take his eyes off you.โ
โIโm too tired. I need to sleep,โ Natalie mumbled, closing her eyes and falling asleep instantly, even with the lights on. Skylar switched them off.
Austin and Hank were still awake, reviewing tomorrowโs work schedule. Both were night owls. After their evening of drinking and singing, sleep was the furthest thing from their minds. They decided to have another round of drinks.
โWeโve rescheduled tomorrowโs daytime activities, but the evening ones canโt be postponed. Check the scheduleโanything wrong?โ Hank asked, handing Austin the plans.
Austin quickly scanned the schedule. โEverything looks fine. Weโll stick to this plan. Thereโs an interview after the event. Just speak freely. These small interviews are easy for you,โ Hank said confidently. Heโd been confident for years, but Austinโs romantic life still worried him.
โNatalie seemed oblivious today. Doesnโt she realize you have feelings for her?โ Hank exclaimed, exasperated.
Austinโs expression darkened. โSheโs just come out of a difficult situation with Jeremy. Itโs natural for her to be guarded. Maybe sheโll come around.โ
โSpeaking of Jeremy, I feel like heโs still not over Natalie, but heโs hard to read,โ Hank frowned. He worried that even if Natalie chose Austin, Jeremy would intervene.
Austin gave a noncommittal hum.
Hank raised an eyebrow. While he fretted about Jeremy, Austin seemed unconcerned. He looked around the mansion. โAustin, after all these years, tell me straight outโwho are you, exactly?โ
Austin gave him a cool glance. โIโm your bread and butter.โ
Hank muttered a curse and went to bed.
The next day, Natalie and Skylar woke at 11:00 am. Skylar had a headache.
โMe too! My head is pounding. I knew I shouldnโt have drunk so much. It always gives me a headache,โ Natalie complained, adding that she could eat anything, but alcohol was her nemesis.
โI have a headache too. Drink some water,โ Skylar said, handing Natalie a glass.
After ten minutes, their headaches eased. The mansion's chef had prepared a lavish breakfast of Floan and Wiscadian cuisine. Skylar was ravenous.
โThe pancakes are incredible! Iโve been craving them. Theyโre even better than the ones in Jipsburg,โ Natalie declared.
Skylar agreed. โTheyโre delicious.โ
โWe had them make extra today,โ Austin said softly.
Hank had already devoured two pancakes and a bowl of chicken soup. โThis is the best! Itโs just too far from the set; otherwise, Iโd come here every day.โ
โI feel the same way,โ Natalie agreed enthusiastically.
As they chatted, Natalieโs phone rang. She saw Jeremyโs name and her smile vanished. Skylar noticed the sudden shift in her expression.
