Chapter 992

“Are you still with Aiken and his sister?” Joe’s cold voice filled the phone. Even without seeing his face, the chill in his tone was unmistakable.

Skylar frowned. “I’m with Natalie. She’s sick.”

After a moment, Joe said, “I’ll pick you up tonight.”

“No need. She has a fever, so I’ll be watching her tonight,” Skylar replied firmly.

Joe simply said, “Alright.” They ended the call.

Skylar looked at her phone, feeling oddly empty. She picked it up and returned to the hotel. The waiter brought her dinner just then.

When she got back, Natalie was still asleep. She woke about half an hour later, immediately noticing the aroma of food.

“You’re awake? I bought some chicken soup and boiled vegetables. Do you want some?” Skylar asked.

Natalie nodded eagerly. “Yes! I’m starving!”

Skylar checked Natalie’s temperature again. It had dropped slightly, to just over 98.6 degrees, and she seemed much better. Skylar felt relieved.

As they ate, someone knocked.

“Who is it?” Natalie asked.

“It’s me, Jeremy.”

Natalie’s expression changed. She looked at Skylar and said, “I’m going to lie down. Can you open the door for me?”

Skylar nodded. “Okay.”

Jeremy was about to speak, but stopped upon seeing Skylar instead of Natalie.

“You’re not going out with Joe?” he asked.

Skylar nodded slightly. “I’m staying with Natalie today.”

Natalie called out weakly from the bed, “Is there something you need?”

Jeremy frowned and hurried to the bed, noticing the chicken soup, vegetables, thermometer, and medicine on the table.

“You’re sick? Why didn’t you tell me? I’ll take you to the hospital,” he said, trying to help Natalie up.

But Natalie quickly said, “No need. Skylar’s been taking good care of me, and I feel much better. I should be fine by tomorrow after resting tonight.”

Jeremy turned to Skylar. “Thank you for taking care of her.”

Skylar smiled. “Natalie’s my friend; it’s what I should do.”

Natalie said casually to Jeremy, “Please leave if there’s nothing else. Skylar’s been taking care of me and is tired. We want to rest.”

From the moment Jeremy arrived, everything felt strange, considering they were divorced. Sensing the distance and Natalie’s clear dismissal, Jeremy felt a heavy heart. However, given Natalie’s illness, he decided to postpone their conversation until their return to Lindfield.

“I’ll be flying to Murida later today. I’ll see you back in Lindfield. In the meantime, take care of yourself. If you need anything, just give me a call,” Jeremy said, gazing intently at Natalie.
