Seeing that Diana was listening, Kally urged her, "Princess, if you don't fight for it, this kingdom will easily change hands in the future. While the King still has some affection for you as his sister, why don't you seize the opportunity?"
After a long while, Diana nodded slowly. The confusion in her eyes gradually faded, replaced by deep calculation. "I almost fell for his trick. He wanted me to remember the sacrifice, wanting me to be content with mediocrity."
"He asked Ansel to talk about his life experience because he wanted me to feel guilty and be content. But he forgot that I am the eldest princess of the Kingdom of Veyra, and I should have a say in the stability of The Grand Luminary Empire."
Kally stepped forward with a smile when she saw Diana getting back on her feet. "As long as the princess is well, this old servant will be willing to die."
Diana nodded, her eyes deep. "Help me change; I want to go to the palace to see the King."
Kally stepped forward with tears of joy when she saw Diana getting back on her feet. She responded quickly and turned to prepare.
Before long, Kally stepped forward with a pomegranate red palace dress and came to Diana. Diana glanced at it and shook her head. "Since I am going to see the King, how can I dress so gorgeously?"
Kally stepped forward, thought for a while, and understood what she meant. The King had to know that today, the Prince Regent caused an uproar at the Princessโs residence. If the princess were to enter the palace now, dressed so extravagantly, she could not possibly stir the Kingโs pity.
Kally took a set of plain clothes from the cabinet and helped her remove the hairpins from her head. She applied some powder to Dianaโs face, which gave her a somewhat sickly appearance. Diana looked at herself in the mirror, very satisfied.
She got into the carriage and went to the palace. When she arrived at the Heaven Hall, she knelt outside. Thanatus saw her and hurried forward, asking respectfully, "Princess, what are you doing?"
These past days, the Great Luminary King had been utterly exhausted and distraught over matters concerning Princess Diana. He was afraid of neglecting and mistreating her. All sorts of delicious and precious things were delivered to the Princessโs manor like flowing water. Thanatus wondered what else she could be dissatisfied with.
Diana raised her head, her eyes red, and shouted towards the palace gate, "I have failed the Kingโs graciousness and have come to beg for punishment."
The Great Luminary King, who was reviewing memorials, frowned when he heard the commotion outside and said to the eunuch, "Go and see whatโs going on outside."
The eunuch quickly reported back, "Reporting to Your Majesty, it is Princess Diana kneeling outside the hall, saying she wants to ask Your Majesty for punishment."
The King felt a pang in his heart and quickly got up and walked out of the hall. He saw Diana kneeling on the ground, her plain clothes covered in dust, her face pale and almost transparent. His heart ached at the sight of the grievance in her eyes, and he quickly stepped forward to help her up.
"Why are you doing this? Canโt you come into the hall to talk about anything? Why do you have to kneel outside? Get up quickly; the ground is cold!"
Diana was helped up by him; her body swayed, as if she was unsteady. Leaning on the Kingโs arm, she choked with sobs, "Your Majesty, Iโm ashamed. I acted willfully and angered Prince Xander, and offended Princess Consort as wellโฆ"
The King already knew about the Princess Manorโs affairs. He also had a headache, as both were his family. Logically, he should stand on Xanderโs side in this matter, but privately, he didnโt want Diana to be wronged. After all, she was his only sister.
Hearing Dianaโs words of apology, the Kingโs heart felt like it was being slowly sliced by a knife. This was the sister who had suffered for ten years before returning to him. She was the elder sister who had protected him since childhood. The Kingโs face remained impassive, but his heart was bleeding.
He helped Diana into the hall and let her sit down. "I already know about this. You donโt have to be like this. Although Prince Xander is sometimes impatient, he has a good heart. And so does Royal Aunt. They are not petty people, so you donโt need to take it to heart."
Diana nodded, with a look of fear on her face. "I have been in the Kingdom of Veyra for ten years, and I have long been accustomed to swallowing my anger. After returning to Pidence City, seeing how good the King is to me, I became a little carried away. I actually forgot that women should not interfere in court affairs, and even more so should not embarrass the King for my sake."
"I am here today to plead guilty, wanting to tell the King that I will never be so willful again in the future, and only ask to live a stable life in the Princess Manor."
Her words were full of grievance and seeking completeness, which made the King feel very sorry for her. The Kingโs tone was full of pity.
"Diana, donโt say that. Itโs not your fault. Itโs because I didnโt think carefully and made you feel wronged. You were married to the Kingdom of Veyra for the sake of The Grand Luminary Empire, so you should be respected. I will talk to Xander and Athena about it, so donโt take it to heart."
Diana nodded in fear, "I am very grateful that you care about me; how dare I trouble you to worry about me. I will apologize to the Royal Aunt."
The King frowned, "Diana, there is no need to do this. You just came back. You should take good care of your body. There is no need to worry about other things."
Is he covering for her? Diana thought.
She breathed a sigh of relief in secret. Fortunately, the Kingโs mind was not completely muddled. After all, blood was thicker than water.
The King comforted her again and again, fearing that Diana would be wronged, and rewarded many treasures to the Princess Manor.
Coming out of the palace, Diana finally smiled.
Kally asked her, "Princess, now that Prince Xander is in control, why donโt you take this opportunity to recommend a few people to the King and divide Prince Xanderโs power?"
"You canโt act too quickly. If I interfere in the government as soon as I come back, His Majesty will definitely be dissatisfied with me."
Diana looked at the scenery outside the carriage, and a sneer curled up on her lips. "Prince Xander is a tough bone to crack. You canโt be tough on such people; you have to take your time."
"Do you have any plans, Princess Diana?"
"Now Xander is all-powerful in the court; it is not easy to divide his power. Only by slowly distancing the King from him can I act in the future."
Speaking of this, a hint of ruthlessness appeared in Dianaโs eyes. From that little test just now, she had already realized that the King treated her differently from others. Otherwise, he would have been furious and told her to get out of the palace.
With that certainty in her heart, she felt much more at ease. Only by making the King feel sorry for her can her position in the Kingโs heart become more stable. Diana ordered in a cold voice, "Go to the Xander Manor."
The carriage turned around and headed towards the Xander Manor.
Athena was playing with her children, paying no attention whatsoever to the affairs of the Princess Manor. Hearing her servantโs report that Princess Diana had come to apologize, she raised her eyebrows in surprise, wondering what this was all about. Was this a case of giving a slap, then offering a treat?
After thinking for a moment, she said to Nelson, "Invite her to the main hall, serve her hot coffee, and treat her well." She couldnโt bring herself to harm someone who was being kind, let alone the Kingโs sister. Even if Athena was dissatisfied, she had to put on a superficial show.
Nelson retreated, while Athena changed her clothes and went to the front hall. From afar, she saw Diana dressed in plain clothes, appearing respectful.
Trina gasped, "Isnโt this a bit much? Is she deliberately putting on a show for the Princess Consort? Anyone who didnโt know better would think the Princess Consort was bullying her."
