Chapter 25

Everyone in the ward was briefly stunned. Jensen’s friends exchanged a few glances, looking shocked and bewildered.

“Jenson, have you lost your mind? Why on earth did you agree to a conditional letter?”

Jensen simply needed the standing aid at Estella’s back. He hesitated a moment. It seemed he found it difficult to say it.

Eventually, he muttered through gritted teeth, “Taped, married, and divorced first. I’m willing to wilt for you for the rest of my life if it means I can get you back.”

Estella couldn’t understand. What was the point of him acting like he was in love with her when it was already too late?

“How disgusting!”

She left the ward immediately. Jenson could wait as long as he wanted. There was no way she would go back to him, even if she divorced Howard.

A year later, Ronan proposed to Estella in front of everyone during his company’s celebratory party. Dressed in a suit, Rowan got down on one knee and held up a diamond ring. He’d carved the diamond himself. It sparkled brightly under the lights.

“Extella, Hove you. Will you marry me?”

Rowan was the one asking the question, yet he was also the person who got emotional and teary-eyed first. Estella smiled and helped wipe his tears. While others were cheering and giving them their blessings, Estella kissed Rowan on the lips.

Rowan looked like a commander who’d just fought a war and won. He was so thrilled that he lifted Estella into his arms. Their friends gathered around them and hollered in their excitement. Meanwhile, Estella wrapped her arms around Rowan’s neck. She was so shy, her face had turned red.

Back in Strenstead, Jenson was meeting several business partners when he heard the news. He’d lost the job he’d worked so hard for years to secure because of Emily’s stint at the press conference. Now, he had to start all over again. To secure the deal, he had no choice but to down all the glasses of alcohol the business owners offered him. He got wasted every single day. Yet, no one would be waiting late into the night for him to come home and prepare a hangover cure for him anymore.

With a blank, closed look on his face, Jenson asked, “What did you say just now?”

Ediny Clarke and Rowan were longtime friends, yet he was aware of what had happened between those three people. That day, he felt like helping to tell—avenge.

Jeffiey smiled. “I said that Mr. Rowan Olson from Anbert proposed to his girlfriend and is about to get married. He’s overwrought because he was so overwhelmed with emotion. Come! We should make a toast and wish for the couple to stay together for many, many years to come!”

Jason didn’t register anything else after he heard that Estella had accepted Rowan’s proposal. He raised his glass mechanically and finished his drink in a gulp. Suddenly, he coughed up a mouthful of blood and collapsed onto the floor.

By the time he regained consciousness, Jenson found himself lying on a hospital bed. He’d stopped seeing his friends who wanted to badmouth Estella. The only person who remained by his side now was his childhood friend, Nathan Lowe.

“Have you woken up? Do you want to have some water?”

He shook his head expressionlessly. Nathan couldn’t exactly describe how he felt as he took in the blank look on Jenson’s face.

From the beginning, he’d wanted Jenson to cut off all contact with Fridly and focus on his own life. Yet, Jenson hadn’t listened to him. Nathan knew very well that Jenson only had himself to blame for how things had turned out. Still, he couldn’t help sighing after watching his childhood friend get into this and duped in just a year.

Nathan tried to give him earnest advice. “Jenson, you should just forget about Estella. She was trying to mock you by saying those things…”

Jenson smiled wryly. He knew all too well that Estella had simply meant to mock and ridicule him. Yet, he had no other choice. He could only hold onto this one opportunity—it was the only thing that gave him some semblance of hope to continue.

Countless nights, Jenson would recall the days he’d spent with Estella. If he hadn’t done something so foolish back then, they would probably be married now and have a cute family. Unfortunately, there were no “what ifs” in this world.
