Chapter 259: Where to Get Married
Isolde said, โItโs just a small injury; I recovered a long time ago. Moreover, I didnโt suffer. Kolton took care of everything. How could I suffer?โ
Natasha glanced at Patricia and Christine, and they smiled as well. The situation in Zlaimond had been detailed in a letter sent by Kolton with the army. The letter had arrived at Sharpโs mansion yesterday while Isolde was in the palace, so everyone already knew what had happened in Zloimond. However, it was rare for Isolde to not take credit and not be arrogant. Patricia was naturally happy to hear that. She felt that Isolde was truly sensible.
The Sharp family did not have a daughter, not even among the grandchildren. Suddenly, they had precious Isolde. At first, they had hoped she would be like other girls, dressing delicately and staying in the house. After all, the Sharp family had no shortage of rough men. Raising a true โSnowball,โ a doll, would have been so much fun. But in the end, her true nature couldnโt be changed. Seeing Isolde return victorious now, and imagining her sitting quietly in her room with a fair face, embroidering, everyone still felt that the Isolde before them was more likable. At least this way, she was a true member of the Sharp family. A capable, battle-hardened, dark-skinned witch was undoubtedly better than a fair-skinned lady who only knew how to embroider and smile sweetly.
Isolde had also arranged to return to the Langley mansion today, as Clark had said he would be waiting at the mansion. Esme had informed the Sharp family about this in advance. Therefore, lunch started early. Before they sat down, Isolde asked Natasha, โAre my brothers not back yet?โ
Patricia smiled and said, โTheyโll definitely be back before your wedding, donโt worry.โ
Natasha said, โSpeaking of the wedding, the previous marriage doesnโt count. This time, weโll have to make it grand.โ
Patricia said softly, โNatasha, you should ask Isolde about this. Should she marry from our mansion or the Langley mansion?โ
Kolton also told them about how Geoffrey saved Isolde in Zloimond. The Sharp family, who had been extremely angry with Geoffrey, had their anger greatly reduced.
Natasha nodded and asked Isolde, โWhat do you think?โ
Isolde was momentarily unsure. Deep down, she didnโt want to marry from the Langley family. She hadnโt been in the Sharp family for long, but she felt that the Sharp family was where she truly belonged. The Langley family was empty and filled with resentment. She was an outsider there. Moreover, everything her mother had was brought back.
Natasha knew that she was in a difficult position and sighed softly. โYouโre the Langley familyโs child after all. Although the person your mother insisted on marrying is foolish, heโs not a bad person. No matter what decision you make, Iโll support you, just like how I supported your mother marrying him back then.โ
Isolde nodded and said softly, โIโll think about it.โ
โIt doesnโt matter where you marry from. Youโll always be a child of our family. That will never change.โ Natasha patted the back of her hand.
Isolde was deeply moved. Getting married in such a happy atmosphere was truly a blessing.
Oliver got drunk. Garrett ordered his men to send him to the room to rest. Garrett staggered out and said proudly, โThereโs still a difference between the young and the old. I am not drunk, but he is.โ As soon as he stepped over the threshold, there was a loud thud, and he fell to the ground. The whole room was startled. Natasha said in exasperation, โDid you drink too much? Oh my god, he fell! This old fool is going to kill himself!โ Then everyone watched in amusement as Garrett on the ground rolled over and began snoring thunderously.
Isolde burst out laughing. โOliverโs alcohol tolerance is really not bad. He got Garrett drunk, but heโs also drunk himself.โ
Natasha also scolded jokingly, โHe acts like a fool despite his years.โ
Patricia skillfully instructed the servants to carry Garrett back. The meal continued with only the women present. Isolde was worried about Oliver, wondering how drunk he was. Drinking so much, and the blood circulation might affect his hand. She ate absentmindedly, not daring to show her concern too much. Finally, after the meal, she found an excuse to leave. She asked the servants along the way and found the side room where Oliver was resting. She sneaked in.
She had expected to see Oliver passed out and snoring, but instead, as soon as he heard her footsteps, he sat up, smiling at her.
โYouโre not drunk?โ Isolde asked in surprise.
โIf I didnโt pretend to be drunk, how could I fool Garrett? Heโs good at drinking and keeps drinking. But after all, heโs aged and canโt handle too much alcohol, yet heโs so competitive,โ Oliver said with a laugh.
Isolde chuckled, โExactly! I thought you were really drunk. You didnโt see how proud he was just now.โ
She poured a glass of water on the table and brought it over. Although he was not drunk, the smell of alcohol was overwhelming. Oliver took it and drank it all in one go. Isolde reached out to take the cup, but Oliver got out of bed and planned to put the cup down himself. When he saw Isolde extend her hand, he was stunned for a moment. Then, he said softly, โYou donโt have to serve me.โ
Isolde took the cup with one hand. โIโll serve you when itโs inconvenient for you, and youโll serve me when itโs inconvenient for me. Isnโt that what a lifetime of marriage is about? Supporting each other?โ
Oliver found these words very comforting and smiled at her, โYes, supporting each other for a lifetime.โ
Isolde knew that he was not good at expressing his feelings, so she did not continue talking about this. Instead, she pulled up a chair and sat beside him. โWhen we get married, do you think I should leave from the Langley mansion or the Sharp mansion?โ She wanted his opinion.
โWhat do you think?โ Oliver asked.
Isolde shook her head. โI donโt know. Natasha asked me earlier and said itโs up to me.โ
โWhat Iโm asking is, do you think youโd be happier leaving from the Langley mansion or the Sharp mansion? Just choose what makes you comfortable. If thereโs any gossip, Iโll handle it for you,โ Oliver said.
Isolde felt a warmth in her heart. Ever since she returned to Argentum, all she had heard were kind words, a stark contrast to the past. One should strive to be strong, but the feeling of being protected was good.
โLeaving from the Sharp mansion, Iโd of course be very happy. It feels fulfilling and joyousโฆ,โ Isolde said thoughtfully, hesitating for a moment. โBut Iโve been wondering why my mother went against the family to marry him. At least in my eyes, heโs not a good man. If I were choosing a husband, Iโd never pick someone like him.โ
Oliver was silent for a moment, then said softly, โYour mother was young at the time. When someone loves you so recklessly, how could she not be moved? And back then, she probably didnโt think about the distant future. She just wanted to follow her feelings at that moment, to love someone wholeheartedly and spend her life with that person. Your mother had a very pure love and hope.โ
Isolde had a thought.
Oliver continued, โAlthough I donโt like your father, the fact that he wasnโt good to you doesnโt mean he didnโt love your mother. Iโve heard that he was always a filial person, but he clashed with Prudence several times for your motherโs sake, which led to Prudenceโs resentment toward your mother. Of course, thatโs probably just one factor. Human emotions are very complex.โ
