The Swordswoman’s Revenge Story After Rebirth
Chapter 413: A Temporary Solution
As soon as Isolde moved, the group of women charged at her. But even without a weapon, armed only with a broom, they couldn’t get anywhere near her. The broom swung through the air, striking Johanna and several other women on their heads as they screamed and scrambled to escape, scattering in all directions. The crowd around the walls and door burst into laughter.
The men standing beside Lawson couldn’t bear to watch any longer. Instantly, a dozen of them rushed forward, eager to teach Isolde a lesson.
Seeing the chaos, Vance quickly shouted, “Grab her, grab her and drag her inside! Let her repent before our ancestors!”
But Isolde didn’t need her broom. She tossed it aside and, with a swift motion, drew the whip from her waist, snapping it through the air. Most of the men had no idea how to fight, and even the few who practiced martial arts were all show and no substance. They stood no chance against Isolde’s true skill.
The whip cracked through the air like a blooming flower. It was beautiful to watch, but the sting on their faces and heads was anything but. Even Vance, hiding behind Lawson, wasn’t spared. A few lashes landed on him, causing him to grit his teeth and cry out in pain.
If Lawson hadn’t had someone protecting him, he likely would have felt the sting of the whip as well. Seeing his men being struck down, he shouted angrily, “Stop! What do you think you’re doing? Stop!”
Those who had been struck retreated, realizing they hadn’t been attacking—they had been the ones getting beaten. Isolde’s actions enraged the family. Several of the older members, who had been hiding inside, came out to yell at her.
Without hesitation, Isolde spoke, silencing their protests. “A dozen or more men, along with a group of women, gang up on me, a single woman. Is this how the Langley family has always carried themselves? Look at you all—who among you can inherit my father’s title? Today, it’s clear for everyone to see what kind of people you are. You criticize my father for supposedly causing Prudence’s death, but that’s just an excuse. The King rules with virtue and filial piety. If my father truly committed such a crime, why would the King have posthumously honored him as a First-Rank Duke? Do you all think you’re wiser than the King?”
She turned to Anthony and added, “Tomorrow, invite all the officials of Zrork City. Invite the gentry too. I’ll explain this thoroughly. And don’t forget to bring Riley along. I want to ask him, what crime exactly did my father commit?”
With a dramatic flourish, Isolde raised the deed to the mountain in her hand. “Everyone, my father’s body is outside, and as you can see, the Langley family has stopped us from burying him in the ancestral land. Since they show no compassion, do not allow my parents to return home, they are heartless. Don’t blame me for being ruthless. Let the word spread: I’m selling this mountain.”
“Filthy woman! What exactly do you want?” Lawson shouted, his anger reaching its peak.
If you want, bring the officials here—I will sue everyone present for defaming the loyal officials of the court. Bring in the renowned scholars and gentry, I’m going to explain this matter tomorrow. See you then?
With that, she turned and walked away with Anthony, leaving Lawson and the others to fume with clenched fists.
Outside, Anthony let out a satisfied sigh. “I’ve wanted to hit them for so long, but I was worried about being seen as bullying them. But today, I finally let it all out.”
“You can’t just act recklessly,” Isolde replied. “They’ve always held some trump cards over us, and they twist everything to make it look like the worst crime. If any of you had hit them, they would’ve used it against you. But I’m different—despite my position, I’m still a woman. It’s easy for them to gang up on me, but when they lose to me, it makes them look useless. Also, today, it’s just me against all of them. The crime of using numbers to overwhelm me is obvious.”
The first battle, a victory. Oliver, who had been listening from outside, remained calm during the whole thing. He trusted Isolde completely with her abilities.
When Isolde emerged, he said, “You went a bit too far, but you still got them to scatter. If you hold back just a little, they’ll fall just as easily.”
Isolde smiled as she linked her arm through his. “I know. Thanks for the reminder.”
The crowd began to disperse, but a few kind-hearted people approached, offering blankets and hot water. After hearing Isolde’s conversation, they realized this wasn’t just a joke. The Langley family’s behavior was truly excessive.
Inside the church, after Isolde had left, there was a long silence. The people retreated inside, and Lawson, looking at the ancestral tablets, stayed silent for a long time before finally turning to Vance. “What you said… is it all true?”
Vance, feeling a bit guilty now, hesitated. But thinking of Riley’s support and the backing from Ashley, he gathered his confidence and replied, “Lawson, what I said isn’t a lie. Riley was there at the time. He’s from the palace. If I were lying, would Riley agree with me?”
Jaime interjected, “Riley’s been to Zrork City a few times. He’s known to be close to Catherine. If Geoffrey didn’t commit those acts, Riley wouldn’t let people spread such lies.”
Danny added, “Lawson, regardless of whether Geoffrey harmed his mother, the title shouldn’t have gone to his daughter. How could a title be passed to a married daughter? The Langley family has other heirs. If not Vance, there’s Clark. Clark was adopted by Geoffrey. The title should have gone to him.”
“But why is Clark involved in this now?” Lawson frowned.
“His mind is confused,” Danny muttered.
“Right now, the biggest issue is that Isolde wants to sell the ancestral mountain. What should we do?” an elder of the family asked.
Lawson sighed. “We’ll have to raise some money from each family and buy the land back.”
“Exactly,” Vance quickly agreed. “The Ianolev family is a large one in Zrork City. We can’t let her threaten us.”
“But what if Isolde uses this opportunity to raise the price?” Danny worried. “Raising money from each family won’t be easy. Will everyone be willing to contribute?”
